Sorry this is so small - I''m waiting to get a larger version by email. FI and I went hiking yesterday morning and someone else on the hike just happened to catch this shot. I am thinking about asking the photographer (he is a semi-pro) to go back with us to this spot and take a few more photos. This is a protected wildland area and it is unbelievably beautiful. I wish I didn''t have my hiking pack on - if I didn''t I''d be tempted to use this on my invitations. As it is I think I''ll use it on a scrapbook page.

Maybe I only like it because I can''t see my face???

This is in Orange County, California! Most people who live near here don''t even know the land exists. We''ve got 20,000 acres north of the Irvine area that is allll open like this. I spend as much time as I can out there.

where exactly is that near irvine? i am about an hour north of irvine with traffic and would love to check that out sometime

Go to Irvine Ranch Wildlands. The area is only open for docent led hikes and mountain bike rides, but they are totally free. All of us docents have gone through quite a bit of training so most of the hikes are "interpretative" - we share info about the plants, animals, geology, etc. In that picture I was showing my FI the Red Rocks and how the differences in color (they are striped) come from the rock being laid down under water vs. out of the water.
