That is a BEAUTIFUL cushion AND would look great, if the prongs were not messed up!

I know it''s confusing --and it does have a lot to do with being in canada—so many parties involved, additional regs etc.

Recap-->this is what i was *told* weeks ago:

I spoke directly to MB and asked if i could have my diamond sent to them from the seller--they said they used to accept this but do not anymore b/c they had a problem in the past. They now require that only their retailers can send a stone--i am assuming it''s to ensure it is legit, inspect the background, cert, etc. I asked MB what I should do with the stone and he said he would ask the retailer to set it for us. I was not given the option of sending it through jeweler x to MB. I don''t know why--and i didn''t question it at the time b/c i stupidly assumed that everything would be fine (my mistake).

Another rant (forgive me)

Jeweler x NOW claims that i was told upfront the quality would not be on par with MB and that i had the option of shipping directly to MB and is strongly suggesting I was too cheap to pay for it (this cost would have been over $2000 b/c of his $500 shipping fee, plus customs, duty taxes, tariffs on the TOTAL value of the ring). This is absolutely not true, but he is right about one thing, I would not pay this ridiculous cost (it is not even accurate). I would have pursued other avenues. He is crazy to think i would agree to lesser craftsmanship. I did not buy a 1.5 carat cushion, MB setting and MB wedding band b/c i am cheap, and I would not KNOWINGLY accept a bad setting for this stone! IT IS SO RIDICULOUS.

Hi Jas12,

Sorry you have had such a bad experience with your e-ring. The jeweler did a horrible job of setting your diamond. I''ve said many times it''s best to have the designer set your diamonds and for the best designers they always turn out perfect. May I ask your location? Was the MB jeweler in Canada or the US? MB does not charge to set the diamond it is included in the price. If you would like to send it to me I can put a end to your problems. MB would be totally embarrassed with what was done to your ring.

Bill P--That is so nice of you to offer to help me out--I can see why PS''s speak so highly of you! I am still corresponding back and forth with the current jeweler and need to clean things up, but I know how to contact you if need be. Thanks so much for the offer. I wish I had been on PS months and months ago to get contacts like you--all of this would have been avoided!

I wanted to add:
The craftsmanship on the Michael B. band is impeccable—I do not want to muddy their name, and the intention of the thread was to simply get advice from other discerning customers out there about whether or not they see the setting as crooked or poorly done (and maybe to vent just a little). MB has a great rep and I intend to post again when this is cleared up, with the beautiful finished product I know they are capable of!

Also, thanks for the compliments on the cushion —it is a 1.57 carat, VS2, F , cushion modified brilliant. I looove it! Now it needs a lovely throne :-)

Jas12, You let me know if you need my help. I have sent this tread to Matthew, his son, and will let you know how he replies. Their workmanship is impeccable and customer service the best. They would not want that ring floating around looking like that. Did you buy it in Canada or the US? Trying to figure out how they figured the $$$ they were asking?

Bill

Just out of interest here, but would the head need to be replaced now or could someone knowledgeable like Bill Pearlman still keep the same head and readjust it?

The head needs to be replaced. It''s not seated correctly and would cause problems down the road.

Jas,

please keep us posted on what happens. I''ll be interested to hear what MB says and at least you know you''ve got some help if you need it.

Bill, the MB rings were purchased in canada (so maybe the fees are accurate.. i am not sure, but not according to CND customs)

Note: will be away from the comp most of the canadian thanksgiving long weekend...i apologize if i don''t reply to posts

it sounds like things are going in the right direction. i will be looking forward to the outcome.
best of luck jas.

Hurray for Pricescope!!! This board is the best. I love to see things get resolved and people get helped. Bill, how nice of you to intervene and send the thread to the designer. She''s going to get it fixed one way or the other now.

I''d be very upset if my jeweler tried to pass that off to me. I think you are absolutely right to get it fixed.

Good luck! Enjoy your holiday!

Michael B. has NOT seen the set diamond. They made the mounting with ''open prongs'' and shipped it to canada (where i live). The reason they did not set it for me is b/c I did not buy the diamond from the Michael B. retailer

I inquired about having the cushion sent directly to MB so they could set it, but MB cannot receive a stone from anyone but an authorized dealer. MB said that they would get Mr. X to do us a ''favor'' and set the stone. Some favor! I know this is not MB''s fault, and they do not know what has happened yet--i am just trying to decide if i should contact them directly or try to resolve this somewhat amicably

Just rereading this thread this morning and this is confusing me a bit. There are several Pricescopers who didn''t buy their stones from Michael B retailers and have sent the stones to Pearlmans or another MB retailer and they were sent them to MB to be set. I can link the threads if you want me to

also, Michael b has his own store. there is a pricescoper or two who dealt directly with MB and I know for sure one of them already had her stone, took it to MB and they made the setting for her. I can understand MB not accepting a stone from anyone but an authorized retailer but that retailer should have still sent the stone to MB and not accepted the ''favor'' and then mess up the setting

. I wonder if being in canada had anything to do with the ''favor''?

I was going to say that I bought my diamond from GOG and they shipped it to Michael B directly and it was made and mounted there by Michael B. And I have dealt with Matthews/Michael B directly ever since. I don''t think GOG is a Michael B retailer since Michael C Fina is one in NYC but I wanted to buy my diamond from GOG and that is what I did. However I wanted to deal directly with Michael B and thats exactly how we went about it with no problems whatsoever.
