I have an 18.53ct Unheated Nigerian Rubelitte Tourmaline (more of a Raspberry color) that measures 16.35 x 16.05 x 10.48 mm. I am looking for some good ideas for a setting. If you have any pictures of some settings you think it might work in, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

That''s HUGE! I suppose you are thinking of setting in a pendant since its large size is more suited than a ring?

Absolutely...in a Necklace Pendant.
I know it''s big...but I think it''s going to look so beautiful once set.
I''m thinking yellow gold, but beyond that just don''t have an idea.
I''m not one of those people that can "imagine" what something will look like.
My wife can take a paint sample and know exactly what a room will look like before it''s painted...not me! :)

I agree that yellow gold will bring out the purple colour best. Are you a fan of halos? Perhaps a very thin & delicate halo around it since it is quite large.

Single diamond accent. Bezeled and milgrained stone (just imagine red with yellow gold).

Here's one without the diamond accent, which I think you can so without due to the size of the rubellite. Plain bezeled with milgrain.

Or you can add 2 small diamons accents to the chain for extra pizazz, bezeled with a melee diamonds surrounding the stone.

You can always do a plain halo:

Here''s one picture already done in yellow gold:

Wow!! I really like this one... it gets my vote!

I really do like this look. It would set off the Tourmaline very nicely. I also like that it attaches in two places, should help keep it level. What about the back. With the depth, will this type of setting work? What size is the gem in this setting and what size are the diamonds if you know.

Thanks for the ideas!

Any suggestions on where to get a setting like these made?

All these are custom made. For online vendors, Good Old Gold, Whiteflash and Quest have made these numerous times. I''m others like Pearlman''s, Wink and more can do them as well.

this one looks a lot like yours...it is definitely a statement!

I recently saw a rubellite this colour at my jeweler''s. It was mounted on black gold with diamonds... Absolutely fabulously STUNNING! Can anyone try to photoshop the mounting in black gold?

Only with a gold or platinum chain instead of a silk one.

How about making an enhancer out of it? Then you could put it on varying sizes of chain (choker length comes to mind), silk cord. You can even attach a pin to the backside and make it a broach, as well as an enhancer. Here's one of my all time favorite broaches, the "Hooker emerald." It's very extravagant, but it gives some ideas, other than halo settings.

Bad picture of the broach above, how's this one? Fit for a Queen, huh? If you were to do an enhancer, you could hide the bail in the back, don't attach it to the top like a traditional bail. There's more versatility by hiding the bail in the back of the stone. A huge stone like that commands attention, and would look wonderful on all sorts of things!!

Thanks for all the posts...I''m thinking a yellow gold halo may be the best with just white diamonds. Thanks again!

Wow David, you are selling some gemstones I see, through your email address.

Yo David! Welcome to the hood, bro.
