My boyfriend and I have been ring shopping twice now. This last time we found a jeweler close to me that was really nice, laid back and had fairly reasonable prices for a B&M. I cannot quit thinking about rings! We have been discussing them for about 2 months now. I know a proposal won''t happen too soon...the fact that I want it to be a surprise combined with the fact that he''s always traveling make me sure of this.

The problem is....all I can think of is "3 stone or solitaire"..."should I go smaller in size and higher in color"..."will he be as sensitive to cut and color as I would be"....

and it''s driving me CRAZY....I try not to pass these thoughts along to him, as I know it would only confuse him even more and thus make my wait even longer.

Also, I''m concerned that I''ll be disappointed with the ring. Granted part of me says "you''ll love it no matter what" but I also don''t want to be stuck with a ring I don''t like or hurt his feelings by saying I don''t like it.

Has anyone else been in the same boat? Thoughts? Insight?

You''re in the right place! Browse the SMTR threads, note what really grabs you about each ring that you like, and since you guys are already shopping together, consider emailing BF some of the pictures of rings that you love! I''d also recommend a link to one of the forums where emerald cuts are discussed, or perhaps just a PS thread with a bunch of pictures of someone''s new EC ring... and he might recognize what an awesome resource this site is!

Who knows- maybe you''ll read about your proposal preparations here... and hopefully only recognize BF as a poster AFTER it happens!

Also- while I wouldn''t ever recommend actually BUYING through Ebay, you should do a quick search on EC diamond rings... you will find hundreds of options, with every possible permutation of size, style, and quality. It should help with identifying your specific likes/dislikes.

Hi !

I totally understand how you are feeling and like you I craved emerald cuts too! I wondered if I was getting a 3 stone ring since my FI knew that is what I wanted. I had to keep my mouth shut though since I was not supposed to know about his ring searching. I kept obsessing about it and drove myself crazy! My FI decided to go with a solitaire and he was super nervous about me not liking it. When he finally proposed I was blown away by the solitaire because he picked it out and did a wonderful job! He said he would surprise me with side stones later and I am not disappointed about not getting a 3 stone ring. I also originally wanted a bigger stone but after seeing my ring I can''t be happier with my 1.04 carat!

I''m sure you will love it no matter what because it came from him and he loves you so much that he wants to spend the rest of his life with you!

Also, he might know more about diamonds than you think...My FI did his research on diamonds and I had no idea!

Good luck!

Not so sure about this....he asked me how they set the diamond and if they "glue it in place." I was very nice and said (without laughing) "no that''s what the prongs are for." At least he has learned GIA only. I know AGS is good to, but being on the east coast most stones are GIA and that''s less for him to remember.

He prefered the 3 stone over the solitaire, so I have a feeling I may be getting that....but you never know.

I did send him a very comprehensive email. I listed out dimensions, cut, color, clarity, gave price ranges to expect, size of side stones, etc etc.

The problem with size is that most places don''t stock many emerald cuts and I''ve only been able to see 1 ct, 2 ct, 3 ct....nothing really in between. I want G or H color; however, some H''s show more color than others. The list could go on and on.

The main problem I think is that I''m just too darn impatient! and over-analyze everything (as my mom says).

Maybe he is kidding and trying to make you think he''s clueless. My boyfriend keeps teasing me that he saw some really nice e-rings at Sam''s club for like $500 and then asked me if cubic zirconium is a type of diamond. Silly boy...he''s taking it a little too far that is pretty obvious he''s just messing with me. But perhaps that is what your bf is doing by asking about the glueing question.

I am totally obsessed, and literally find myself spending HOURS on this website...there is just an abundance of info, then you find links to other websites, jewelers, etc...it really is a crap shoot...no way of winning or getting out.
