hi! I think this may be my first post in the colored stones area!
I''m just starting to get ideas together for a ring I want to buy next fall. This will be for a big b-day - a gift from DH but he wants me to choose exactly what I want. I want to make sure it''s a timeless design that I will have for years. With metal prices the way they are, I am on the prowl for good deals on the setting and would buy it now if the right thing came along at the right price!
The ring I have in mind is a blue sapphire RHR. My total budget is $3000. I prefer platinum, but unless I got really lucky that would be my whole budget - so white gold or palladium is my most likely choice. Since my e-ring is a round solitaire, I''d like to do something different for the sapphire. I''m thinking asscher, cushion, or oval. There are three styles of setting that I like: dainty halo, more substantial halo (tiff legacy style), or 3 stone.
Ideally the stone would be about a carat (if haloed) or larger, if 3 stone.
I''d love to hear your idea about how to make this happen in my budget, and also to hear recommendations about vendors.
One of my distant family members is in the gemstone business, so I have asked him to let me know about his sapphire inventory. I assume he would give me a good price so that might help keep costs down for the stone, and more for the setting. If he doesn''t have exactly what I''m looking for, I figured I''d get the sapphire from The Natural Sapphire Company, Simply Sapphires, Jeff White, or work with Wink, Whiteflash, James Allen or Pearlmans or another PS vendor to see about sourcing one for me. Ideally I''d love to get sapphire and setting from the same place.
I have shopped via internet before and had good experiences. My only hesitation with buying the sapphire online is that it''s so hard to see the color via computer screen.
I''ll post some of the setting styles that I like.
Thanks for your feedback and ideas!
