If I''d known then what I know now... (past jewelry purchase(s))

If I''d known what I know now I would have gotten a setting without melee stones. I hate that I cannot use my U/S. Of course I LOVE my setting (still) and my jeweler replaces them for free so I guess it is not a horrible situation. I also wish (even though I bought it after almost a year on PS) that I wouldn''t have gotten an eternity band for my wedding band. I know one day there is a good chance I will no longer be able to wear it. That makes me sad.

If I had known then what I know now... EASY. I would not have used Leon.

Musey- what''s the difference in the alloys? Is it just a slight color variation?
I think that there is a very slight color variation (a bit darker, though most people wouldn''t notice, I believe, the diagram below goes iridium - ruthenium - cobalt), primarily the difference is that it''s more scratch resistant that 950 plat/ir (but I believe not more than 900 plat/ir). Here''s an article that''s often referenced around here, one of my faves in PS journal: An Overview Of Common Alloys Used In Jewelry

I found your "if I could do it all over again" interesting Musey. I totally agree about the ruthenium. Jeff Cooper settings are Plat/Ruth. I didn''t know much about it before I decided on the setting, but did read up a little on it. It made sense to me as JC settings aren''t exactly intricate and would work well with the ruthenium.

I''ll say I LOVE the fact that it''s a plat/ruth mix. I haven''t had it polished it two years now and it still looks pretty shiny. The bottom does have the patina but the stop of the setting where I can see it is still shiny. I''m still surprised how hard wearing this mix of platinum has been.

It is more greyish...not as white as the other plat mixes I''ve seen.

TGal, I know that if I ever buy another platinum ring, the ruthenium thing will be at the forefront of my mind. I think my e-ring does okay, especially because its plain surface is on the palm side, but still. Oh well.

I know I know, I just still feel sad about that... what a terrible thing to somewhat 'ruin' for someone!
