Which one of you takes greater joy in it?

The guy or the gal?

My FH loves ours. My step dad loves his... my uncle is a big fan... it seems to be a very guy friendly thing.

Personally I find it very cute when FH is playing with it. He takes such JOY in it. It''s like a toy.

Asking this question would assume that my husband ever steps foot in the kitchen.

OK, I am being harsh. It does happen twice a year. However no spinning occurs during those occasions.

LMAO. Okay. So... mine cooks dinner for us during the week.

And he LIKES it! I get up to help him and he insist I sit down.

It is a toy! Especially if you put a hamster

in it! (Oh...come on...I am just kidding!!!!!)

We have one that is string spun. The string is waxed and slick. It actually whines or whistles it goes so fast! Like those old car toys that you pullled this strap thing from...and then put on the floor and watched it fly? What were they called?

Funny how cheap you have gotten off providing the men in your family a food preparing device for entertainment. You need to pick up some glow in the dark things and let them turn the lights off...I know I know, I am opening new horizons for them.

Of course he''d kill me if he ever heard me say that because for some reason, he thinks he cooks all the time. i tried to tell him boiling water for tea doesn''t count!

I LOVE my salad spinner! I can''t believe I lived without one for as long as I did. It makes having salad soooo much easier.

Maybe he'd get into it if he tried the old fashioned French way?

I spent a summer in France when I was seventeen (A long long long long time ago!). I'd never heard of "salad spinning". Every evening "ma mere" put lettuce in a perforated bag and then stepped outside and WILDLY swing it around 180 degrees numerous times. (Sort of like a softball pitcher.) Worked like a charm and misted the garden.

Maybe this would be a more "manly" way for him to help with dinner???

i have a string spinner one too. are they different now? i may need to get with the times!
of course, i love mine and it still works perfect!

Hey be glad your hubby uses the spinner. Mine just shakes the heck out of the poor lettuce and gets water everywhere.

And yes we have a salad spinner. Maybe in my Honey Do list, I can introduce him to it, LOL!!!

Belle...there are some that you crank. They''re awful! String-spinning is the only way to go.

thanks for the spinner lesson widget! i do love mine and it is soooo easy to use (borderline fun even!) but when i started reading the responses, i realized just how old it was! of course, i started thinking maybe there was a new and improved salad spinner that i was missing out on! thanks for the reality check. obviously, there are just somethings that don't need to be improved.

happy spinning all!

Me for sure. I love it. I got rid of our old one when we moved and I keep forgetting to replace it. DH doesn''t even know what one is. His idea of making a salad is opening a sack of baby greens.

LOL, that is just HILARIOUS!

I told him about this thread and his shook his head and said "that is a strange, strange message board."

I have both sizes of the pump spinner (oxo, I think). I love them. Salad has been so much tastier since I started spinning!

We always forget to use ours!!

We end up buying salad in a bag way too much. Maybe I need to get ours out (it''s the Oxo pump style, too) and let my husband have at it!

my husband could care less - truly... but you have yet to see joy until you see kids playing with it... oh my - they gather in groups!

Sillly question, but since I''ve never owned one, are there other uses for the spinner? I do a lot of hand washing and don''t like to wring the things out . I have always wondered if you could spin out your delicate laundry. My daughter in college leaves her laundry for me and all her fancy tops are hand wash only cold water. I could have fun if I could spin them dry!

Alton Brown actually jokes in one of his episodes that you can do this with the oxo salad spinner. I really can''t see why not! It''s just not that big, is all....

at preschool the kids used old ones to do spin art - stick a paper plate in the bottom, drizzel some paint on it, then close the lid, spin, and voila! a mess!

wtw is a salad spinner?

rereading what I wrote I apologize for the way it sounded.
Thanks for the info!
I was kinda like well thats the silliest thing I ever heard of and it came out in the wrong way.

no offense was taken. you were fine.

So I have the OXO spinner and I really like it, but it doesn''t get the water off as well as I had thought. You know how at a restaurant or salad bar, the lettuce is totally dry. Well, when I get done with the OXO spinner it is less watery than before, but still kinda watery. I usually just give it a couple good pumps and let it do its thing. Am I missing something?

I do enjoy the bowl feature - i.e. after I get done spinning the stuff, I just lift up the strainer, wipe out the clear plastic part, dump my salad in it, and put it on the table... voila!

When I used to live in Chicago there was a great salad place near my office called Salad Spinners! Loved that place!

Storm, if you try a salad spinner, you''ll never go back to the paper towel method, believe me!

I use to do the paper towel thing, but the spinner takes far less time and doesn''t waste all of the paper towels. There is a colander that fits inside the spinner. Just wash the lettuce, drop the colander in the spinner, spin to your heart''s content, hit the brake, and the lettuce will be just about dry. Drier than paper towels, even!

Sometimes with bag lettuce, you can get those slimy pieces that attach themselves to otherwise good lettuce. This totally grosses me out, so I prefer to wash everything anyway. It''s so easy.

Mine is the OXO.

Totally. My FI actually does all the dishes and he was so confused by the salad spinner that he separated all the parts and I can''t put it back together again because I can''t find the bowl! So he buys the bagged salad because I refuse to wash and dry lettuce by hand!

My DH demanded we register for one on the wedding registry. So we''ve got one - but nobody uses it!
