I haven''t posted all that much, but here''s a bit of background:
My fiance (!) and I met 7 months ago and we''ve been dating for 6 months. Because of our careers and contracts, etc., I moved away in July. Since then we''ve been visiting whenever possible. I was thrilled that I worked it out to spend the whole month of September here living with him and working. We''d talked about engagement this Summer and I''d kind of expected it might happen in the Spring. We both felt ready for it, though, so I wasn''t entirely surprised when my hinting about what sort of ring I''d like turned into full-blown conversations and he started to take action on buying a ring. In mid-August, he told me he had bought something and it would be ready in 4 weeks.
So at the beginning of September I moved here for the month. He has a studio apartment with 1 chair and a twin mattress on the floor, which I thought would be a bit of an adjustment from my 2 bedroom condo where I live by myself. It really hasn''t been. It''s been incredibly easy and we''ve developed a very comfortable routine very quickly. He gets me my calcium pills in the morning and in the evening, I make him a cup of green tea when we get to work, etc. We cook and clean and do laundry together. We even work together. He''s the sweetest guy in the world
.
4 weeks after he had told me he bought the ring, he told me that he emailed the store and they said it would be another week before it was ready. But 2 days later it was ready. He kept it secret for about a day, but the logistics of secretly going to pick it up without me knowing were too difficult, so he ended up confessing. He looked at the ring while I looked in the other direction, told me that it was perfect, and then put it away in a locked safe box. I expected him to propose that weekend, but the days came and went. That Monday, I was pretty tired so I got ready to go to bed. As we cuddled before I fell asleep, I complained that I was going to be so sad when I have to leave at the end of the month. He hugged me and said "Well, at least you''ll go home with your diamond ring". I wasn''t sure how to answer that, so I just said that I loved him. He asked if I wanted my ring right then. Of course, I agreed! He got it out of the safe box, and got down on one knee (we were both in our pjs and glasses) and said a short and sweet and wonderful speech about how much he loved me and looked forward to spending his life with me. Then he presented me with the most beautiful ring ever (in my opinion, at least)
Since then we''ve been dreaming about planning, and we''ve tentatively set a date for August or September, 2008. We''ll start official planning when I''m back in town for an extended period of time, which will probably be March/April. I''m so excited!
On the other hand, I''m devestated to go back "home" on Saturday, but at least I will see him in a few short weeks for my cousin''s wedding, and he''ll be able to visit once in November, and then he is coming to spend the month of December with me.
Anyway, sorry that was so long!
