I'm having it placed temporary in a solitare, since the bling budget bank is broke for me...for awhile. I want a very simple solitare but still very feminine. Does anyone have any opinion on the Sisley Vatche solitare? I'm specifically just looking a the head/ prongs. I would take out the little diamonds and add double claw prongs...thoughts?

Edit link to the ring...sorry!

I don't really like that setting because of the way it sticks out at the base. I think the design could be improved.

I think Steven Kirsch's rosebud setting would be beautiful (2nd one on this page). It could be done with a plain or engraved shank if you didn't want all the diamonds.

DS you are totally rocking my world right now! I love that setting!

Wow, what a gorgeous stone! It's very beautiful, congrats! :naughty:

:lickout:

I have to agree with DS - I don't love the Sisley. That SK is GORGEOUS and your stone gigantic, so there's plenty of room to incorporate all the petal detail

But if you want simple solitaire I think a Rock in a setting like justginger's exemplifies understated opulence

Very nice! It is not vert deep, but appears to have nice crisp and distinct patterning, so that is great! I really like it a lot.

As to a mount, I would go very simple like Phoenix's holly for now, or just ginger's mount. Me personally, with a stone so large, I would make a nice large donut so the stone was low is a nice big "base" so it was secure on my hand and would not wobble. Like Mara's new solitaire (which I would perhaps just blatantly copy  )

can you link to Mara's?

I like Gingers but I'm not a fan of the catheral shoulders. Phoniex's holly is pretty but I think it would look bizarre with a cushion vs. a round.

Gorgeous old diamond! Definately like the sk choice of ds's......Congrats on such a wonderful find! The exhaustion in this case is worth it!!:)

I think that I may have seen this diamond at OWD a month ago and if so it was lovely! We looked at a 5c and a 4c. And a 7c maybe..can't recall. Beautiful..!! I can't wait to see this completed. Adam's bench is seriously fantastic. CONGRATS!

I am so excited that you love it! It is odd we don't see that setting more often, but it is perfect for a large stone because let's face it, you don't need a halo with that size stone! But what a setting!

Luscious! I think that beautiful pillow-y cushion would look spectacular in a setting like Haven's. She recommends Burdeen's, the place that did hers, very highly. So while I don't know if Adam's bench could/would replicate it ... once you're looking for a more permanent home, I would think that well worth checking out!

Gorgeous! I am a believer in simplicity when the stone is too beautiful for words. Plain solitaire with double prongs. No more, no less.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!!! I emailed Adam about doing a version of the Rose Bud setting, eithout diamonds/ miligraining/ engraving. I'm hoping he will come back that it won't be a problem as it really was exactly what I was looking for.

Mara- I'm so glad you said you liked it in person. I have been looking on and off for about a year, not seriously, but just seeing what was out there. Then this one really blew me away. Now just have to wait the next few weeks to receive it! :((

Sarah, I thought you were just getting a temp setting for now. I wouldn't have someone make the rosebud setting unless I have seen their work on that type setting before. SK is right there in NYC. I'd really have him make it!

Wanted to add one thing. I wouldn't want all that much pave, either, but where I think it is gorgeous is on the inside of the scoops and not on the outside. You see the sparkle from the sides, but it doesn't scream out as too blingy.

Laila619s post is GORGEOUS! Bah....delicious.

This will be a temp setting. Probably for 2 or 3 years till I find something I really love. Or perhaps this might be it. I just need to wear it around and figure out it it works for me or not. I guess I'm just waiting for something that absolutely takes my breath away. I do have to go with Adam's bench because we sort of did a package price for the ring and a setting. Plus I have seen via video and pictures some of the work his bench has done and been impressed with it. I guess I just always like to try out new vendors when it comes down to it. Now I will have rings by Leon, SK, VC, and OWD. I see a future photo shoot in my near future :appl:

I have to say I debated about the diamonds in the inside of the swoops. I also thought it would be a nice touch to leave them there, just as a little extra IYKWIM. However, I really think Chrono has it right that something simple will just let the main diamone shine more, so for now the swoop diamonds are out.

I understand about the package deal. I definitely would not invest in diamonds on a setting that might be temporary, either. I have always had plain settings so I like them, obviously. But I really believe as Mike R. said in my tagline below that the art of the setting can enhance the beauty of the diamond if done well. There are plenty of antique designs that are art (like Mara's new one, Dreamer's, etc.) that do not have pave on them. But I think having some style to the setting will be an asset because I think Mara's new setting is night and day better than the plain solitaire temp setting even though the diamond was pretty in it!

That is one of the prettiest stones I've seen!
The facet pattern is TDF! The cut is amazing The shape is perfect pillowy cushion goodness!
I agree a simple classic solitaire is best! Just curious what size finger is this going on???
I bet you can't wait for her to be on your finger!! Wear it in great health!!!!!
Now for a what shall we name her thread????
I vote for Roxie!

Stunning!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it set. Congrats on finding such a beauty. I love lower color stones!

DS I will have to go look at Mara's new setting. It has been mentioned so many times I feel like I'm missing out. I *think* way down the road I would like to send this diamond off to Mike R to set into something really spectecular and romantic with pink diamonds (i just love lower colored diamonds matched with pinks)....but that is way way WAY down the road from now. There is a back story to that but I will save it for another day.

Tahnk you Elisateach. It will go on a size 6 finger. JustGinger has a very similar diamond but her hand size is a 3.5 and it looks HUGE on her. I have a feeling on my size 6, it won't quite have the same spread but still be awesome! And I very much like Roxie!! I never even thought about naming my diamond. I never thought I would have a diamond to name!

Thanks Canuk-gal and Susimoo! I believe I get it mid January. I'm trying very hard to be patient. I have to say I am really thrilled about it.

OMG, it's beautiful, Sarah!!

I am thinking maybe I should revise my own specs for the antique stone am looking for.....hmmm...

Thank you Phoenix!!! I will do a whole write up of all the vendors who helped me (might skip over some of the locals). I was semi open with color, had to be under K, but I wasn't willing to budget on the overall shape and facet pattern of the cushion. I really wanted a true antique with the pillow-y shape to it. Goodluck to you on your search!

I was thinking about you as one of my local vendors had a 9ct OEC (I think it was 13.7mm...I cant remember) but it was gorgeous! I want to say the color was an I but it faced up very white to me. When next to my D I could just barely tell the difference and really only looking for the side. All my camera shots came out horrible as I wanted to take a photo for you. Downside is whoever had it diddn't take very good care of it as there was a chip next to the girdle...though it was very small. It was such a shame!

Very gorgeous stone!

H  LY C  W!!!!

That's an AWESOME diamond, Sarahbear!!! WOW!!! I'm in agreement with the many PP above- simple and understated. Let Adam show you some very simple designs to let this baby rock out of its own accord. AND -- if it were me --- I'd have double prongs on the corners - just that little extra security.

I'm excited for you - hurry up January so we can see this baby on your hand!!! A size 6 is still pretty tiny in my mind - speaking as a size 7.75/8 myself... I'm jealous of you "6"!!
