i am in search of a genstone that is not a superfine gem necessarily but a ovoid shape to fit into an existing empty mounting--i would love a polished but heavily included ruby or something very organic and smooth like a polished stone..............any thoughts on a place to find such a thing?

''Egg shape'' ...

Is this it ?

I see, well 'fat oval' makes more sense - that one is the only assymetric 'egg' I know of aside... the Dresden diamond! There may be a few more, but no one seems too eager to cut anything like this.

What will fit into the setting ? (size, proportions, cab or faceted...). Any chance to see it? It sounds a bit tricky to fit a stone like that remotely.

A few things may look like a translucent ruby: spinel and red tourmaline. You could probably find or have a cab or some fancy cut of either. Ready-made to to some unusual shape may be hard to find.

Just for example, these are spinel cabs: RED and PINK . No idea how often such included material is cut at all - these are pretty unusual.

Speaking aof 'organic' shapes - you may want to try THIS SITE for some unusual gem carvings. There are allot moe sources of such things. This is one of the more well known. No-name cuts are often just as nice.

thanks ana..........
