Input wanted on zircon ring design

I'm trying to design a setting for this 10mm zircon. I'm thinking all white gold, as shown below. Like the inspiration ring below but with the outer couple of rows of "waves" omitted, and a thinner band. Maybe larger diamonds and/or gradiated?

Also, my stone is round whereas the one in the inspo ring is oval. I would also rather have a different gallery.

My idea reminds me of a "winter cruise," coastal but icy. Maybe a couple other details that go with that theme, a gallery in the outline of mermaid scales, a little clam shell, seahorse etc. embossed on it inconspicuously, etc. All input appreciated!

My zircon:

Also interested in any completely different design ideas anyone might have.

Very pretty stone!

I think you will need to post this in Colored Stones, @seaurchin. They will eat this up!

I agree with your description and the ocean motif!

Thanks! I had it moved.

Op, can you pls post more hand shots? Lovely cut and it's very lively, right?

DK has this premade and I love it with a big colorful cherry on top (or ice cube). Sort of similar, less asymmetric though

the yellow is a touch bigger but also a fluffy dress for a big stone

I'm not a great designer, @seaurchin, but I just wanted to say that I love the movement of the one you're contemplating! With your stone, it really would look like an icy North Atlantic crest!!

'Mermaid scales' reminded me of this, from my inspiration folder:FishScaleComposite.jpg

I would probably go for a couple of diamond sidestones rather than rows and rows of smaller diamonds, which, unless you have the budget to do Cartier level invisible setting, will limit the design of the ring. I would probably go for a design with four "corners" where there's mermaid-style fins for prongs; the mermaid tails would go under the "waves" that's the base of the basket in the gallery, and between each corner in the north-south view, I'd place a seashell motif that could even be an opportunity to set a small diamond as scintillating "pearl", if the seashell was open. The more sizeable diamond sidestones to the east and west could be held up with a seahorse motif disappearing into the ring shank, similar to CRD's seahorse ring.

Use some, all, or none of these ideas. I have a mind that is able to visualize these structures and mental images, but if I spend the time to actually sketch it out, I'd probably get attached to the design and want it for myself. I'm on a buying ban. No more until at least I've paid my April bills.

I love your stone!!!!! That is the coolest cut I've seen in a while!

Sorry no useful opinions on the ring! I'm the type that finds a pic I love and run with it, give or take a few tiny adjustments!

This is the ring inspiration I had when I was setting the blue round Zircon that I bought from @CHRISTY-DANIELLE (from Ivy and Rose):

Ivory&Rose#2.JPG

I changed the should details, made the air gap/line more pronounced, and bezel-set the stone in Rose Gold.

Here is the finished ring (not a very good photo, sorry) next to my JW Rubellite while at the bench ready to be shipped to me:

Here is another I&R swirl ring for my inspiration which I may use for the 7mm round Tsavorite from JW:

You could almost make the top and bottom waves here be like semi- bezels (protect that stone!). And they could be altered to accomodate different stone sizes (shown in black).

Get well soon!

DK :))

You could also make the quasi halo of 1 or 2 rows end with a mermaid tail that kind of plays with an angle off the side of the stone. If you're Ok with asymmetry.

Thanks so much for the great ideas, everyone.

I just decided to buy the completed zircon and diamond ring below from ebay instead though. I liked it and it cost less than I'd be able to get a ring made for with all the diamonds I want on it. SO SORRY!

But I have carefully looked over all of your thoughtful suggestions and will definitely keep them in mind for a later project (or if the ring I ordered doesn't work out).

Thanks again. Much appreciated! :kiss2:

@seaurchin that is a grand setting!

Sorry to thread jack but this rendering reminded me so much of my pink spinel ring! :)0E2A7629 small.JPG

Do you remember who the designer is of the scales ring?
I never knew. I grabbed the pic from the Romanov Russia site, so I'm guessing it's late C19 - early C20.
