Anyway, I got to know him better while I was dating the guy that presented me. When that fizzled, we starting seeing each other, but as a freshman (he was a sophomore), I decided I didn’t want anything serious so I asked him if we could just be friends. So for the next 5 months, I dated other people while still getting to know him better. While I was on Spring Break that year (and visiting another boy in California, B

Where we are from originally: I am from Arizona and he is from Chicago.
How we met: We met during our junior year of college; he was an Econ major, I was a Neuroscience major. We both had a lot in common, not the least of which was our mutual shyness. I'm surprised we got together at all because we are both quiet and not so great at the "communication" thing
. We were friends for quite a while but were mutually crushing on each other. Finally, during fall of our senior year, we were talking on AIM late one night (even though we were just a few dorms away from each other
) and he admitted that his feelings for me went beyond friendship. I told him that it was mutual and we dated for the rest of our senior year! I was worried that come graduation, we would have to enter a long-distance relationship since he was going to law school in Chicago and I wasn't sure where I would find a job. Luckily, I found a job in Chicago as well, and we have an apartment together in a fun and trendy neighborhood with our two cats.
Engagement: Our engagement was bittersweet because it arose out of very sad circumstances. His dad unexpectedly passed away in early June '05. He was only 60. We had been talking about getting engaged since early spring and after his dad died we both came to the mutual agreement that life is too short to put off something we both wanted to do. He asked me to marry him the night after his dad's wake, but we kept it quiet until we bought the rings (this forum has reminded me that I need to take some decent pictures of them!). In August both our families met up in Monterey, California for a mini-vacation. We were all gathered on the beach and he slipped the ring on my finger and our families got to share in our happiness!
Wedding: Since I am from Arizona and I still think of it as home, we are probably having the wedding here, at a very pretty venue near my parents' house with waterfalls and a mountainous desert backdrop. However, as no one in my family has planned a wedding before (my parents had a very small civil ceremony) and the process seems very daunting and stressful, we have not ruled out a small wedding in Las Vegas with only our immediate family in attendance. So the wedding could be as early as this May (the Vegas option) or as late as December 31, 2006 (the Arizona option).
Anything else? Actually I'm writing this from my parents' house in AZ; I'm here visiting them for the holidays. He is flying in from Chicago today to check out wedding venues, go to a cake tasting, have our engagement photos taken, and hopefully help me make a decision as to when and where we will be having our wedding!

How we met: A friend slyly invited us both to dinner with her and then to a pool hall. After about 15 minutes she just 'had' to go to another party for a little while to meet someone, and we couldn't leave w/o her. The first time I lay eyes on him I stopped breathing and my heart skipped a beat. It's a good thing we went to play pool later (with a couple of beers), because I'm sure I was incoherent all through dinner. Just thinking about him makes me feel glowy inside, and when we're together the whole world looks brighter, warmer, and easier.
Expected Engagement date: Sometime between now and maybe July? He's finishing up his phd, and any added stress may cause him to keel over and start frothing at the mouth. So I'm trying to be good. TG that he has no idea how much time I spend floating about the internet looking at stones and rings. But he did recently mention that he wanted to, er, gather data points on my taste in certain things for certain 'plans'.

In the interim we are putting together a special e-ring with my birthstone (sapphire). We picked out the same stone at the same time from the same site. I thought someone else bought it when it disappeared. So I was happily surprised at Christmas that he did indeed purchase the one we picked out. Now we are seeking the perfect setting...so if you ladies have some ideas...I posted some specs under "colored gemstones."

We met up again in high school, but I was a preppy school girl and he was a sports guy goof off so we didn''t talk at all. I went 4 hours south to UC Irvine and he went 1 hour north to Fresno State. He came down to visit his cousin, who lived in the same dorm as me and was dating my roommate and best friend. I thought he was so cute and found his personality very attractive (He had changed quite a bit in the short time he had been in college). We began chatting online and began dating when we both went home for the summer. I transferred to Fresno State after my first quarter back to college so we could be together all the time. He has been telling me it''s coming for a couple years now and everytime I think we''re getting close he explains to me that we have to wait because we need to save MORE money and be better prepared financially. (He is a financial advisor.)
He has a bachelors, I have a masters, and we both live in our parent''s homes. I save every cent of my paychecks and let my parents take care of my bills, and yet, we still don''t have enough money for him to feel comfortable with. Therefore I am thinking we will get engaged in about 5 years when we have enough saved up to buy a small country. (I''m being sarcastic, I guess I am a little bitter after being told it''s coming and then told nevermind, its not so many times.)
