We met: Very sweetly online...

Long story...I was married once to the guy i dated since I was a teen...we were too young although we are still friendly and i''m still close with his mother (yes, I''m friends with ex mom in law)

I enjoyed a fab single life....traveled (australia, hong kong, enland, new orleans, more times than I''d like to admit), dated, looked great, felt great.

Then I met at a party a guy....we dated, became engaged...very pretty ring although it was not what I had picked out when we went shopping in NYC....

Needless to say, I had to make the difficult, but wise and mature, decision to call the wedding off. I was heartbroken, beautiful ring returned, gorgeous wedding canceled, photographer of my dreams cancelled...(please remember, I barely planned my first wedding...small chruch/restaurant of my parents choice...I was so clueless!!) It was tough, but I knew I could not marry that guy.

At that time, I wondered if I''d ever meet anyone that would be "right"....what was wrong with me? I didn''t want to be married to just anyone.

My ex mother in law encouraged me to post a profile online...she advised me that I didn''t have to actually meet anyone. Just email talk on the phone. Her words "I see men looking at you all the time. You need to start focusing on the future and put the past behind you" Smart lady.

I took her advice. That night I posted a short profile, without a pic!

About a month later (I barely checked the thing) I noticed that I had a response from a very cute face....who said he also had a photography interest as well as a history with France (long story)

We met a month later for a drink and I knew then that something life altering was happening that night. This was last fall.

We now live together. It has been great gettng to know him and the more I know the more I love. It''s just easy.

So, now engagement talk has come up. I''m thrilled.

Funny, I''ve been engaged twice before...but somehow it''s not at all spoiled for me. I just appreciate it so much because I''m looking forward to this awesome journey with a kind and sweet (not to mention very fine) induvidual.

I''ve been lurking and everyone here seems so supportive and helpful....I know I''ve come to the right place

How you met: Introduced by a friend who knew I hated blind dates. So instead of a blind date, it was a group going out to the bars in Raleigh, NC. So she swears it does not count as a blind date. We started talking and then I moved from SC back home to FL and it was too far for him. He got a new job and was moving to FL. He called and invited me to dinner while he was in Tampa, so I drove from Orlando to meet him. It worked out I got to see him the next few weekends (he had a sales meeting in Orlando) and then I met him in Raleigh, we drove to Ashville, NC for a wedding and stopped at his parents to get the rest of his things he left there when he moved out of his apt and drove to Florida. No looking back since. He lived in Tampa and I lived in Orlando and in May 2003 we moved into our first house. I have the house, I have the shared vehicle.... just waiting on the ring.

Expected engagement date: Not sure... since I have been helping him diamond shop (he is not as pro-active as some of these men on here) - He said "the asking" is the only surprise left. He is going to make me suffer for a long while, I am sure. Lets be conservative and say sometime between now and end of 2005.

Anything else you want to add?: This is fun... just a little addicting.

Welcome to the new LIW! I love reading your stories of how you met. Keep ''em coming!

ME: Sydney, 21, starting medical school in a few weeks
HIM: Donal, 38, second year pharmacy school student
LOCATION: Kentucky
STARTED DATING: 2003- I had just moved back to KY after graduating from college in upstate NY. He was in my microbiology lab at UK, a class we were both taking for prerequisites to apply to professional school. Our first study session was two years ago yesterday, and our first date was two years ago tomorrow.
HOW WE MET: I guess I sort of just answered that... the story has a lot of twists and turns, and is truly soap-operatic (is that a word?) Shortest story possible: I was a 19 year old freshly minted psych B.A. (read: secretarial job!) finishing up prereqs for med school, he was a very-unhappily-married (due to his wife''s boyfriend) 36 year old with a bachelor''s in accounting looking to start a second career as a pharmacist. Oh, and I was dealing with the newly-implemented long-distance aspect to my relationship to my girlfriend of two years from college. We got along great, I broke up with my girlfriend, he hemmed and hawed about a divorce for a year, then I dumped him, then we realized that we were too good together to be separate, so I told him to move out permanently from his wife''s house that day, or never show his face to me again. He did exactly what I said, six months later, he got a divorce, we got a house, and we''ve been living in bliss for the past seven months... ordered my custom ering about six weeks ago. (And we both got into our professional schools of choice on the first try!) We''re an unlikely couple, and the story sounds awful, I know, but we''re great together, and somehow, even given the age difference, we are eerily connected and on the same wavelength 98% of the time. (Movies with Bruce Willis or anything involving "decor" compromise the other 2%!)
ANYTHING ELSE: June 3rd 2006- My wedding!

sydney- that does make quite the interesting "how we met" story!

welcome to the LIW! you are our 4th med student, i believe. two were recently engaged, and i should be engaged sometime this summer!

are you excited about starting 1st year?

Hmm... if excited=nervous, then yes, I''m very excited about starting 1st year! Not so happy about all the hemorrhaging of money though ($100 for a set of notes?!) What year are the other med students here, any advice for a newbie? Thanks.

Anything else you want to add?: I love this site! If only I had found this site before we made our diamond purchase. Oh well, there''s always upgrades and accessories!

sydney- Yeah, unfortunately med school tends to bleed you of every last dollar you have! I think my note service ended up being around $300-$400 for the entire year. I''m a second year, HouMedGal is also a second year, and Ginger is now a fourth year I believe.

My advice personally... well, I don''t buy text books anymore- at all. Instead, I buy the review books that I will use to study for boards. They are generally MUCH more concise, easier to read, and good to be familiar with before boards studying rolls around. But some people like text books; for me they are too dense to learn from at the rate that med school classes move (unless you like to study a lot
2.gif
). That saves money too.

Books that I definitely recommend for first year-
Netter (anatomy atlas)
First Aid for Step 1 (has some great mnemonics and everyone basically memorizes it for boards)
BRS Physiology (GREAT book!)
Lippincott Biochem is good..
USMLE Roadmap for Neuroscience, also decent
I have not bought review books for anatomy or embryo yet, which was my first block

The other thing that I think has become important in my success is not attending class. I did go at the beginning, which is generally a good idea so you can bond with your classmates. But I rarely go anymore! If I want to hang out with my friends for a bit, I will stop by class. Otherwise, I hit the library from 8 am - 11 am and then the rest of the day I do whatever I want! Right before exams I do study more though. I also attend anything that is required though, of course.

I do better when I don''t attend class, because I cannot sit in the lecure hall all day and then go home and study. Some people can though! Really it''s a matter of figuring out what will work best for you, and that is different for everyone.

Drop me a pm if you have any questions! Good luck

Hey! Other med students - whaddya know! I can proudly say I''m only 6 months away from being a doctor now and I''m terrified!!! In australia we do things differently from the states, I am in my 6th year (we start straight out of high school). Med school was some of the best years of my life - I agree with the above post, the degree of attendence/worry about exams and doing brilliantly does drop precipitously over the years... In my course we spend the half in lecture theatres and then the last half full time in the hospital, much more enjoyable.
Don''t stress too much about it, it may seem like tough work, and it''s so much to learn, but it''s definitely worth it.

In other news, I had a bit of a late night spat with my boyfriend about the lack of progression he seems to have made ring buying wise, and under pressure he let it spill that he''ll be looking at rings with his mum at the end of the month when we goes to visit! Dammit, me and my big mouth... I''ll end up ruining my surprise!!

How you met: A church retreat (who woulda thunk???). I wasn''t even attracted to him when we first met. We were both going to school in Santa Barbara and he had let his hair grow longer at the time(apparently this is typical of physics grad students in SB). In addition, he had been doing a lot of surfing so not only was his very wavy hair longer, but his normally auburn hair had lightened to an orangy color; he didn''t exactly fit my ideal as far as looks went (tall, dark-haired). He eventually ended up carpooling w/ me to our campsite and on our way home from the retreat we ended up stopping for coffee...and didn''t stop talking over 5 hours later (we were kicked out at closing)! I was in denial for awhile, despite the teasing from my friends, and 2 weeks later found myself on our 1st date. After that, there was no denying anything

Expected engagement date: Soon? Hopefully before September???

Anything else you want to add?: I''m very excited to become part of this group. My friend and I drive ourselves insane sometimes, wondering when our BFs will finally pop the question (and she''s been w/ her guy longer than I''ve been w/ mine!). I discovered PS just a couple weeks ago, when my BF and I were researching rings and gemstones and I''ve been hooked ever since! I''ve truly enjoyed reading all your posts and I think the support that everyone gives is wonderful. I''m hoping this site will keep me sane in the next coming year!

Here''s a pic of me and my sweetie...sorry if it''s a little on the big side!

How you met: In High School - I had the hugest crush on him. We lost contact in college and then he looked me up after college when I was living in San Francisco and we''ve been together ever since!
Expected engagement date: Any minute now. I am almost positive that he has the ring, which was designed by Leon Mege using the diamond that my father, who we lost two years ago, gave my mom. It will be the most special, sentimental ring ever. Not to mention damn gorgeous!

Thanks to everyone here. If I hadn''t found this site, I never would have found about Leon, who is the greatest artist and was such a pleasure to work with!

I can''t take the waiting!

How you met: We meet at my best friend''s and his brother''s October 2004 wedding. He was the best man and i the only bridesmaid, and thus maid of honor. We never met prior to the wedding, not even through pictures. My friend, as well as his brother, kept saying we would get along great, though. We finally saw each other a couple of days before the wedding. We knew something wonderful was there from that moment. Unfortunately, after the wedding weekend, we parted ways and exchanged numbers. He lived in Oklahoma and was finishing college, and i was in Louisiana working. We stayed in touch and planned a road trip to visit the new bride and groom in Texas for New Years. He drove to Louisiana, and together we drove to Texas. When we returned, he moved to Louisiana. We have been doing fabulous ever since!

Expected engagement date: Don''t know. We talk about it and both know it will happen. We''ve even looked at rings several times. Who knows when and what''s in store.

ME: Milly, 23 (in 6 more days! 8.14)
HIM: Sam, 27
LOCATION: San Francisco, CA

STARTED DATING: Spring 2002

WE MET: through mutual friends. We actually met through friends 8 years ago. I thought he was so cute then!! He never even noticed me because he was heartbroken over his high school sweetheart who moved back to Germany. So we never got together then. Two years later, I then started dating this guy that hung out with him once in a while, so I saw him here and there. He didn''t really remember me though. After my ex and I broke up, we started talking and hanging out more often. And now here we are!

EXPECTED ENGAGEMENT DATE: Sometime after 4 weeks? We picked out our setting and diamond. The ring is being made. I don''t know how long it''ll take, but I''m guessing 3-4 weeks. So sometime after that. I hope he proposes right after he picks up the ring! If you want more on the story of my ring, go here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/our-journey-for-our-ring.31655/

ANYTHING ELSE?: We have a little girl named Alyssa. She just turned 20 months 3 days ago. She is a true blessing and there isn''t a single day that I look at her and not say, "I''m so glad she is our daughter."

Here is a picture of us.

Blue roses!!! I was just going to say Jny''s boyfirend looked like Mark Ruffalo. I have to think about who she looks like...Annabeth Gish/Mandy Moore not bad...I always try to see who looks like a famous person! (Just a hobby). Love the idea of how some of the less obvious screen names and avatars came to be. I AM PULLING FOR ALL YOU LIW''S... My 15th wedding anniversary is this Friday...I worked hard to get a move in the right direction...hang in there, if it is right you will get your ring before you know it!!!!

Me: A, 24
Him: J, 37

Location: Montana

How we met: Hmmm...I was married and he was my husband''s boss. My husband and I divorced and later I ended up running into J while I was living up the single life (getting extremely inebriated and making a fool of myself). Anyways we started hanging out more and the rest as they say is history. We moved in together in April.

Expected engagement date: Maybe 2006? He just started his own business so I know he wants to make sure it''s going to be stable before we get married. Who knows? He''s always full of suprises, it could be this weekend. Oh who am I kidding? It will be awhile.

Anything else you want to add: I''ve been lurking here for awhile now and it has been a life saver. I would have gone psyco without you ladies.

oooh, so many newbies with SUCH amazing and great stories. I am NEVER leaving this forum, honestly !!! I think we should have a ten-year rendevous to see how everything turns out for all the couples !

welcome everyone, I think this ''intro'' yourself thread is so great because when people are posting you can check back to remember their specific story.

How we met: His beft friend and my best friend (a couple) introduced us. After meeting we realized we were attending the same college and had a class together. I sat behind him for two months not knowing he was my best friend''s boyfriend''s best friend (does that make sense?). When we met we pretty much hit it off right away but I was afraid to get serious and wanted to be friends

, he kept persisting though (for about 2 months, I''m still suprised he didn''t just give up). But I''m so glad I finally gave into his cuteness!!! He is so genuine and makes me so complete, I thank God for him everyday. Can''t wat to be Mrs. (hopefully very very soon)
