Hey guys. I know I''ve posted over here a few times but I wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I''ve been lurking in rt and smtr getting ering ideas for the past few months when I was looking for a diamond. I''ve always wanted a blue sapphire ering since I was a little girl but when I told my boyfriend that he told me he would buy me that if it was what I wanted, but encouraged me to look at diamonds as he thought it would make me happier in the end.

Well I did look at diamonds and I have been very fond of ec''s and asschers for years (hence the ps name stepcutgirl) and I found so many beautiful ones that I nearly drove myself mad learning the numbers and patterns and percentages and whatnot. Then I saw where violet3 had posted a pic of londonblue''s sapphire ering and it hit me like a bolt of lightning...I like diamonds but I LOVE sapphires! SO over dinner I had a chat with the boyfriend and he told me if I love sapphires, a sapphire I will get! Yay!

So...that now brings me over here where I hope you will not be driven mad by me asking all kinds of questions and posting polls on this and that and just generally trying to figure out what I really want. SO hi! My name is Laurel. It is nice to meet you all!

Nice to meet you!

You'll find a fair share of fellow sapphire lovers here :) My favorite little gemmy is my pad sapphire which I stare at for at least an hour a day, lol. And I love the blues too. There's a "Show me your sapphire" thread floating around here somewhere that you might be interested in checking out, lots of GORGEOUS sapphire rings :)

I had actually originally thought of a colored stone engagement ring as well, probably a garnet or a sapphire. But my fiance is very traditional and went with a diamond, and I've actually grown to love it, lol. It will probably be the only significant diamond purchase I own though, I'm a colored stone girl at heart :) I'm planning on doing colored gem jewelery for all the future occasions, lol.

Welcome to the world of colour and have fun. Coloured gemstones are more difficult to purchase than diamonds due to nuances of colour but that''s also why it''s great. Ask away.

Stepcutgirl - it''s soooo nice to see you over here! I think a sapphire is a perfect match for you! Have you seen Neatfreak''s Jeff White Asscher sapphire yet? It''s divine!

StepCutGirl,
Welcome!!

Enjoy the world of colored stones. Once you realize how difficult it is to source an eye popping vivid colored gem, your opinion of white diamonds will change drastically. I''m not saying how, but you''ll see.

Thanks for the welcome!

LTP-I''m VERY happy to see you frequent over here. You were a great help over in RT. And yes I have seen Neatfreaks sapphire and I

it! But for as much as I love step cuts in diamonds...I think I love cushions for sapphires!

Chrono and TL-Nooooooooo! You can''t say it''s harder than diamonds! No! No! No!

And TL I hope to find ut what you mean, I have a guess at what it is but I will see soon.

Well at least I have you guys over here to help me. I will be relying on a lot of you for help and support until I can finally rest and say I''ve found IT! My boyfriend finds it humerous that I stress and fret over all the little tiny details of finding the "perfect" anything.

Are you going to go for the classic kashmir blue color?

I think so, if that is the royal blue color. I found a chart that I believe Lost Sapphire had posted when she was looking for her shade of blue and royal blue was the middle intense blue color. I really like the shade of blue of Lost Sapphire, Missrocks, and Londonblue''s.

As of right now I''m debating on a halo like Londonblue''s or a James Meyer like AJ''s.

welcome to color world! my travel here was much the same: started researching diamonds and realized that for me they were just ok and i had to have a color stone e-ring.

my only advice: don''t scrimp on the stone in order to have a blingy setting.

mz

Thanks MZ! I do not plan to scrimp at all. Actually it looks like going the sapphire route is not going to save me much if at all. I''m not a very blingy person. I absolutely love a Tiffany Legacy type ring, like Londonblue''s but when I think of me and my everyday style...that''s more bling than really suits me, but I''m not ruling out that type of setting because I really do love it. When I saw AJ''s James Meyer my heart skipped a beat, especially paired with a w band like Coati''s! I''m not sure what my budget will be but If I go the JM route I want a beautiful, largish stone, so no skrimping!

Welcome to the BLUE POOL!!!

Ask away, there are a lot of people here willing (and ''enabling'') to help!!

LS

Welcome. I love colored stones and diamonds. The blue you describe sounds lovely and you''ll see fine examples in the "Show me your Sapphire" thread.

I wish you luck in your search, and fun!

Oh oh! You were born to be one of us!

Welcome and I can''t wait to join you in your journey on the quest for the perfect sapphire.

Hi Stepcutgirl
35.gif
- I love reading and watching everyone''s projects come together and am looking forward to yours now too!

I''ve learned more about sapphires on PS than I have scouring the internet - there are lots of great threads on here.

If you haven''t read it already....here is the sapphire chapter from Richard Wise''s book, "Secrets of the Gem Trade" Link - if you plan to bezel your sapphire, I''d make that clear when searching for your stone - Richard has some beautiful sapphires on his site and is a great resource for information - Richard''s sapphires

If you want something custom cut, Jeff White has cut some beauties and I can''t recommend him highly enough.....Jeff''s sapphires

Be patient and enjoy the process of searching for your sapphire, you''ll know the right one when you find it.

Thank you LS, SH, DB and LD! It''s good to be here and you are a welcoming bunch!

DB-Thank you for your links and info. I understand when you bezel a sapphire it can look darker but if I were to go the JM route would it matter since it is open at the bottom and light can get in that way?

If you go the JM route, I would not be concerned because his bezel setting is very open and delicate.

If I go a different halo look and bezel it how much darker will it make it appear?

Probably about 1 shade darker. It is a little difficult to explain using words though. In short, start with something with a medium tone or less and you''ll be fine.

Welcome to the color world! Let us know if you need any feedback on the stone you are searching - we all love stone shopping while someone else is paying! LOL
