Nice to meet you!

I love sapphires, and I've got a great excuse to buy them because they're my birthstone.

How did you come to specialize in sapphires? From your post, I'm trying to figure out do you mean that there are sapphires originating in New England, or that you do your cutting, teaching and business there? Your field of work is so interesting!

I used to browse Montana sapphires on the Natural Sapphire Co. website, but I just noticed that they hardly have any now. What do you think of Montana sapphires, and are there any other sources of sapphires here in the US?

Edit - I just googled and realized you are probably in Australia!

Hi Tulip
Yes you are correct I am on the New England Sapphire gemfield in northern NSW, Australia.
Regarding Montana sapphire the only rough I have seen is pretty pale in colour saturation but does cut a bright stone and small.

Tim

Thankyou for the warm welcome everyone.i was surprised to see so many replies .I thought my emails were linked to this site telling me that there was activity on here but now I realise it is a forum and will from now on check daily.Good to here there are mutual sapphire lovers out there!!My favourite typr of sapphire are the parti coloured which when cut properly can give you a plethora of colours from all directions.
Pictured is a 15ct rough blue and yellow parti sapphire from the Reddestone creek,Glen Innes which produces some of the best quality sapphire in the world and is uaually sold on the international market as ceylon,Thai or sometimes with special stones as Burmese. It''s a pity due to bad marketing in the 70''s that stone from this area doesnt get its true recognition!!!

sorry the photo was too big so I downloaded a 9ct rough blue from Frasers creek Inverell instead. It has a nice light cross table which presents a bright stone instead of cutting dark!

I had never even heard of a parti sapphire until now! What a fascinating place Priscope is. I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as the rest of us do.

Hi
The stone on my avatar was (it got sold on ebay Australia for $2250 5 days ago thats why i say was) a 2.25ct blue on blue sapphire from the Reddestone creek outside Glen Innes,New England NSW,Australia. The stone was absolutely flawless with no banding. What we call a lovely night stone under electric lighting.Anything else you would like to know about the stone or anything please ask!
Regards
Tim

Hi mugumbris! Welcome to PS!

I am looking at a parti sapphire from the Reddestone creek,Glen Innes. The cut is emerald can you give advice on what you think is important to watch for to ensure a great looking stone? I understand that cut parameters for diamonds are inapplicable due to the different light handling nature of sapphire.

Cheers,

Pieguy.

Welcome, fellow sapphire lover! If you would indulge, if you have any pics of the PRETTIEST sapphire you have ever cut/ seen, I would love to see!
