We are having our ceremony and reception at the same location.

We wanted to say at the bottom... "Dinner and dancing to follow"

However we are being advised that it is more proper to say... "Dinner and dancing immediately following" since it is the same location.

That just seems to wordy. Anyone clear on proper phrase?

Thx.

I think the later is more precise, and may be preferred if you are having a more formal invitation. Depending on the size of your wedding, you could leave it off all together-(because everyone would know already? That there is dinner and dancing to follow) This is actually what we are doing. (150-180 guests/first 120 is family) Most people will have traveled and heard of our plans for the reception and dinner so they are expecting it and it''s all over our wedding website. It will also be on the "weekend calender" in the out of town bags.

Alternatively, if you feel you prefer to have it on the invitation and it is not a formal wedding, use the original verbage.

I don''t think you need the word "immediately". If they want to know, they''ll ask. Otherwise, guests will just find out at your wedding! I agree using the word immediately sounds too wordy.

I''m not sure what the actual wording is supposed to be, but our reception card reads:

Please join us for
dinner, dancing, and merriment
following the ceremony
at the name of the venue

We are having the ceremony and reception at the same place. We on the invite, we just put "Reception to follow" at the bottom.

Honestly, I think you can do whatever you want. The point is really to let people know what is going on--I think that the emphasis on etiquette for invitations has gotten out of hand. Personally, I don''t remember what any of my friends have written on their invites in terms of this, so I think you should put what you like.

Personally, I prefer your original phrase.

We said dinner and dancing to follow, even though ceremony and reception were at the same place. If it''s less correct, no one said anything to me about it!
