HI:

At one time I believed a diamond tennis bracelet was a "must" have in a jewellery wardrobe. But now I am not so sure. My opinion has been solicited on the subject matter as a potential purchase for a milestone celebration. Generous budget. What would you advise? Please!!

cheers--Sharon

I used to think of them as a jellery box spale as well. But lately, I''m really not feeling tennis bracelets anymore. They look outdated to me. A more modern diamond bracelet would be delicious though.

HI:

I wondered the same thing--but what else to suggest? I love my custom diamond bangle, but it is not an everyday durable item.

I find them kinda boring. BUT add a twist to them, they can have a whole new look. Roberto Coin does a great bangle with tension set stones, I am wearing that now, and love it. But the standard tennis bracelet is not something I am loving these days... I see it all the time and that to me is boring. I'd do something custom and make it your own....Sounds like a fum project to me!!!

I think a tennis bracelet of asscher diamonds would be amazing! You don''t see those very often so it is a unique take on a staple.

I did see one IRL and it was devine, but 12ctw and too large and $$.

I was kinda thinking of a gold link bracelet with a couple of diamond links, KWIM? Does that sound good?

Now you're talking. I see it, and love it!! Fabu!!! This is where I hate that I can't post pics. But I get what you are talking about, it's a very rich look, elegant while understated, a classic piece...

Leon Mege has one for sale on his site and it is amazing.

I also think most tennis bracelets look a little outdated. What about a DBTY bracelet? One of the ones with a lot of diamonds? That to me is more modern and timeless than a tennis bracelet. Something like this one but with even more diamonds? Or maybe even with every link being a bezel set diamond. I''ve seen one of those somewhere but I can''t seem to find it...

Honestly, I do still love a tennis bracelet and wear mine daily.

The line bracelet that was so popular in the 20s,30s and 50s became the tennis bracelet of the 80s and 90s.The simple line bracelet design is never outdated. The choice of metal color and gem stone creates the demand for a certain style of line bracelet in a certain decade.I think that this style of bracelet in any combination will always be a must have!Ive always thought this about Tiffany by-the -yard bracelets since the late 1970s...always simple and elegant...in yellow with rubies or plat. with diamonds!

One of my friends has a bracelet like that -- a series of bezel-set diamonds. Personally, I think it''s a timeless look.

Here you go y2kitty.
Leon Mege's asscher bracelet is on sale for only $99,000.
Maybe you should buy two or three.
It has 33 asschers for 24.36 TCW.

I think every woman deserves this staple.

I think a diamond bracelet is. But it doesn't have to be a traditional tennis braclet.

Personally, if I had a really generous budget: www.canturi.com go to collections, Cubism and take a look at the bracelet in that collection. It makes my heart skip a beat. Darn, looks like their website is down. There's a pic of that bracelet somewhere. If you like step cuts, let me know and I'll see about hunting it up.

That is one serious bracelet...would look great paired with the 33 carat asscher cut Krupp Diamond dont you think!

A jewelry box without a tennis bracelet is a sad, lonely place. They''re classics and will always be in style.

I would love a tennis bracelet; however, the size of the bracelet I want would put it into the stratosphere above my budget (like 10ct asscher or something similar). I sure do love me some diamond bangles though!

Well, I can show you my two which are not tennis bracelets. I also love a diamond bangle look. I''ll have to research and see what I can find for you

Here is a diamond and baguette bracelet I own.......

Certain pieces of jewelry are considered classics, and classics never go out of style. Diamond stud earrings, tennis or line bracelets and eternity bands are all classics. Now, how you choose to interpret those classics for yourself is completely up to you. But some staple pieces will never go out of style.

i am with you on this. what is new to some is trendy to others. i think it is fine to change your look but that does not make something classic no longer wearable. if she doesn''t have a tennis bracelet and likes them i see no problem suggesting one. bracelets are hot now, so any of those mentioned would be nice, but the tennis bracelet, no matter what you call it, will always be wearable.

Well. For me personally, no they are not a staple (I hate things on my wrists). So I guess the real question is - can you see yourself wearing one?

I really like the DBTY concept as well, it''s a bit unexpected.

I thought that Megeve''s rose gold watch was pretty special. You''ll find it in her Leon eternity ring thread. Just heading out the door otherwise I would look for you!

I don''t think anything is a ''must'' in a jewelry wardrobe, to begin with.
A diamond tennis bracelet is certainly classic. Certain styles do speak of certain periods. Right now the 2-3 ctw ones that are plain and set in YG say ''80''s'' and that''s not currently a popular look. The art deco styles in platinum or WG are much more popular. But these things cycle around--I can remember when no young girl wanted art deco anything! How things change--and then change back again.
If you have been solicited to give advice concerning what would be a suitable gift for someone else, I think that your job is actually to talk to that person--without giving the surprise away. Turn the topic to jewelry, tell them what you like, get them to say what they like and what their dream gift has always been. Myabe take them shopping for something for ''you'' and see what they try on while in the store--what makes theirs eyes light up. That way, you''ll be much more likely to find out what pleases THEM than you are by asking us. Good luck! Let us know what happens.

P.S. I just treated myself to a line bracelet this summer, and I love it. It''s YG and 2ctw and I found it a pawn shop for $230. I had it tested and the diamonds are a good quality. It''s a very pretty bracelet. There are a lot of such deals in pawnshops right now--sitting next to the marquise diamond rings, just because they are currently very unfashionable. I know I love my bracelet because I''m over 50--I''m sure most girls in their 20''s wouldn''t want it for any price. But I''m also sure that in 20-25 years my granddaughter will be happy to get it as by then the 80''s will be like the 1920''s is now--so long ago that out of date and tacky has become old-fashioned, charming and ''vintage''.

HI:

Thanks for the link...

Guess I am looking for alternates to the trad. tennis bracelet and that is where other opinions come in--not a better group than here who have investigated brands/desigers that I have never heard of!

cheers--Sharon
