Is AGL thai the same as AGL?

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I've read about so many fake reports for colored gemstones, and I want to make sure. I am looking at a ring on ebay that has an AGL thai lab report. I googled their site and the report popped up as the same, but I've read about some being scammed that way. Thanks for any imput!

They do some gemshow testing in Asia but I have to admit, I don't know if they have a permanent lab there. (was it AGL or AIGS?)

Hello Mrs. Stradley,

Thank you for this inquiry. Regrettably, this group in Thailand is using AGL fraudulently. It is in no way affiliated with American Gemological Laboratories (AGL).

We have tried legally to have them cease and desist however from the US, we have no means of forcing them to stop.

Oh wow, this is really good to know! AIGS had sent emails to folks about this (I can't remember how I got on their email list...probably sent some stones there...lol)

I do wonder if AGL should be doing the same?

Confusing but the reports don't look the same. but still don't really know if they're legit lab.

Given what I know about AGL (very stellar lab) and knowing theyve done the due diligence, I wouldn't bother with Thai AGL nor would I accept certificates as being legitimate.


Wasn't there a thread that had all the labs in it at one point?

@Arcadian here's the report from the ebay listing. Who knows if it is a real lab or not. But definitely seems to be shady because if they were, wouldn't they want to distinguish themselves as a legitimate lab? I won't be purchasing this ring, wasn't seriously considering it, just wanted to understand if they were a legit branch of the AGL.

The ring itself looks nice, and I will admit to being too cautious but like some, I've been burned before so there you are.

I'm hoping some of our members in Asia can come in with any info. The reports are def. NOT the same as US AGL, and perhaps the AGL for them is Asia Gemological Laboratory. (still confusing, they should maybe spell it out for clarity.)
