Hey everyone,

My fiance was wondering about this since we''ve been engaged. She''s been wearing it to sleep ever since I propose. I just wanted to know if this was okay because a friend of hers told her it was not.

It's probably fine for the diamond but I would guess after a while, she'll take it off to sleep. The only remote thing I can think of is if the prong catches a thread in the sheets or something....does she sleep with her hands under the pilows?

When I first got engaged, I wore my ring to bed too--I never wanted to take it off.

Eventually, though, I put it in its box at night.

Yes, she does sleep with her hands under the pillows

Been married 27 years and have always worn my wedding set to bed...only take them off when doing cleaning, gardening, painting etc. Rings are not so fragile that you can't sleep in them...I guess unless you sleep on a rock (duh) or flail around alot and hit your nightstand or headboard (poor hubby), but I can't imagine a soft pillowy bed posing any threat to a ring!

There is no reason why someone cannot wear their rings when sleeping at night in terms of damage to the ring. However, the only concern would be that many people get swelling of their fingers when they sleep which makes it problematic if one tries to get it off in the morning to shower, put on lotion, etc.

If someone thrashes around in their sleep so much that they could harm a diamond ring- they have serious issues that have nothing to do with jewelry.

I personally am in the habit of removing my rings and soaking them overnight. In the morning, after my toilette, I give 'em a quick scrub with a baby toothbrush, and they are good to go- nice and clean and sparkly. I can totally understand your fiancee wanting to wear her ring all the time, but she should also definitely get in the habit of cleaning it regularly.
