Hi everyone,

I just registered after lurking at DT for several months. I never registered there because I felt weird giving out my credit card number to a bulletin board...they don''t sell anything...

I am really glad to have a place to post, but my interest right now is in the diamond simulants. DT has a large sim fan base, does this board also include those?

If this is not a board for sims, I apologize for jumping in, and maybe someone can direct me to the proper forum.

Thanks very much,

Flannery

Post away. The simulant crowd here is a bit smaller, but there seem to be more and more crossover posters.

I also lurk over at DT but I haven't signed up because of the credit card requirement. Why do they require a credit card?

Mostly the credit card keeps the riff raff out and prevents double and triple identities. It also takes away some of the anonymity so that people won't snipe at each other without retribution.

Even without a credit card you can post questions that only the "network jewelers" can see and respond to. Other consumers or non-paying jewelers don't get a chance to see or answer or contribute to the threads. This way the advertisers still get their (somewhat exclusive) chance at the low-hanging fruit, making the site more appealing to them.

I'm a newbie too. Where on the forum is it usual to post about simulants?

There isn't that much talk about them here, so there hasn't been any one place. Leonid was nice enough to create new areas as some of us found topics we wanted to discuss here (like weddings and bridal gowns and new babies). Maybe he would be inclined to start an area for discussion of simulants.

Having said that (fairly objectively for me): I hope we aren't going to become a forum deicated to simulants. I wear them every day, but I just don't like to *discuss* them! They are inexpensive and if one makes a "bad" purchase it isn't like buying the wrong diamond!!!

I have two well known name brand simulants and can speak to those, and the subject generally.
