Hello all,

I’m a newbie on here but have been lurking and learning for a while!

I’ve just bought an antique sapphire ring in memory of my Dad. In the process, I rejected another ring / stone as I thought it had a horrible window. But now it’s bugging me - did I make the right call? Or could this just be a tilt window?

Pics attached. The gem in question is a 6ct untreated Ceylon sapphire. In one of the pics, you can see my fingers holding the ring through the bottom of the stone!

Also attaching a picture of the ring that I bought - it’s a 1920s 3ct untreated Ceylon with incredible intensity. It’s the one with the split shank.

Grateful for views so that I can stop going over the “what ifs”!

Yes there is a window in the cushion cut stone, no I don't consider it "horrible". I've certainly seen worse. Only you can decide if you made the right decision because you didn't mention prices, nor can we see the stone you bought well in the provided pics. Are you still in the return window, and is the other stone still available? If no, stop second guessing.

It should be viewed straight on, like in Picture 3. Yes, there is a window. No, it's not that huge and horrible.
