I''ll admit right now that I have no idea how to tell whether or not this is a good stone! I''m mildly educated on diamond grading, but I''m in the dark when it comes to sapphires.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please, educate me.. I''d love to know

Depends what you want it for.

With coloured stones, you get what you pay for.

If I was considering buying a yellow sapphire, my thoughts on this stone would be:

- colour is too pale - I like much more saturated stones especially for a yellow

- size is on the small side for me especially if the stone is so pale.

Yellow sapphires are not the most sought after of sapphires, so you can get an amazing yellow for a lot less than most other shades.

I wouldn''t want to spend the money on mounting that particular stone.

However, if you love it that''s what''s important.

Actually, I prefer the paler yellow myself. I love the look of a light fancy canary diamond. *swoon*

And, I''m looking to mount it in a solitare pendant setting. I want to wear it for my wedding, and because my dress has a lot of detail, I want a small and simple necklace.

So, given that information, is it nice otherwise?

I think it''s a bit small as well. If you like the color, then perfect-because I think that color is really very subjective. Also, the cut looks kind of funny.

I personally wouldn''t buy it.

Do you have any other runners up?

ditto Pandora and FrekeChild. i think the setting no matter how simple is going to cost more than the stone does and/or is worth. however.....and this is a big however.....perhaps setting in a complete bezel of gold would help. but again that''s going to cost more than the stone.....

I think it would be small for a pendant stone. Also, I own a yellow sapphire of about that shade, and I can say from experience that it does not have the fire/hard sparkle of a canary diamond.

That said, I have no problems with a yellow sapphire pendant, and it would be a nice keepsake from your wedding day that you''d be able to wear on other occasions. What about a bigger stone? Or have the yellow sapphire as an accent to another stone, such as a big garnet or blue topaz?

I like the shape of it, but I also think 5mm is too small for a pendant. A 3/4 carat sapphire is smaller than a 3/4 carat diamond. If I was looking for a stone to set as a wedding necklace, I''d want it to be heirloom quality. So I would think you might want to consider a little larger stone even if you want the lighter color.

Thanks so much! I ended up drawing a little scaled sketch of the stone and it was definitely too small. I''ll keep looking. Thanks again for your help everyone!

One more thing to think about:

The cut on this stone doesn''t look that good. Also, they claim it is IF/VVS. but you can see multiple inclusions from one of the side shots.

I know a lot of people here have purchased stones from Natural Sapphire, but I have to question their grading if they are calling this IF/VVS.

As far as color goes, it seems to be pretty evenly saturated, so that is good. As mentioned before, the color of a stone is ALL about what you like, not what anybody else thinks of it.

Good luck on your search.
