I posted this skirt in another thread and I thought I''d post it here too. We''re going to a wedding this weekend -- the ceremony is at 6:30, with the reception immediately following. It''s at a country club. I just bought this skirt along with a black tank top and black cardigan. Do you think it''s okay for a evening wedding or is it more appropriate for a daytime wedding? I''d either wear the black tank and cardigan or a green short sleeve sweater from Liz Claiborne.

Here''s the skirt:

i think as long as you pair it with the black on top, don some nice strappy heels, go minimal on the jewelry and pull back your hair in a simple manner (chignon perhaps), then it would be smashing :-)

Personally, I would go a bit more evening wear, but if you are comfortable in it and it makes you feel beautiful I say wear it! I'd opt for the black tank/cardi, hair pulled back, sassy shoes.

At first I would have said that skirt is a little too casual for an evening wedding, BUT now I realize my first impression had to do with the top and sandals that the model is wearing. I think the black top and cardigan will be just fine, with dressy sandals. Love the skirt by the way!!

Thanks ladies! I love this skirt and bought it for this wedding but then I remembered it''s an evening wedding. As much as I''d love to wear the green sweater with it, I think you''re right. I think the black would be better suited for a nighttime event. It''s not a black tie or black tie optional type of wedding either, so I might be safe. I was looking through my closet the other day looking for alternatives and I think I have the most boring clothes these days. This skirt is the most busy thing I own.

If you want my honest opinion it seems more luncheon day time to me. Maybe with a black top and the right shoes and accessories it would be fine, but it does not seem dressy enough for a country club Sat night wedding. I love the skirt and think it is versatile, but just feel it misses the mark for a dressier event. Is the skirt fabric silk or cotton? That also makes a difference. And I would wear a black fabric (not leather) sandal with it.

Me too. I know it's not black tie. But to me black tie means formal floor length. Night time country club means at least a cocktail type dress.

Is the fabric of that skirt silk or satin perhaps? You know... as I'm thinking about it, I have a skirt that's patterned nicely and it's a silk satin... And with a nice silk/satin top I would still only wear it to a daytime wedding or to an informal wedding/ or a rehearsal dinner.

Sorry hon.

ETA: If it's not satin or silk... I honestly would wear that, with a dressy top and nice pumps to work as we have business casual. And even then if I wasn't in any meetings that day.

I think it''s a little too casual for an evening wedding. However, maybe with a black top and right shoes and accessories it would be fine.

In agreement with DF and Gypsy...sorry. I know you hoped you were done.

But an evening wedding is a great opportunity to get something special that isn''t lucheon type attire. Get back out there and make us proud! Get something that says...New...dressy....special....and just have fun with another excuse to shop again!

You can get a dressy solid skirt and still use your black cardigan and tank-maybe a strand or two of pearls. Maybe a tan or beige skirt that is more dressy like a silk or chiffon. Little more fitted or go the other way and find one more flowy? Even a 3/4 length skirt can add more of an appropriate theme to a country club event.

Dillards has some great attire seperates. They also offer pants that are quite dressy. My mother bought some for a wedding she attended. (they have revolutionized her wardrobe, she can''t wait to wear them again!) They are wide legged and have a sheer chiffon over wrap to them. They really look and move just like a skirt. With your choice of cardigan twin set, it would tone down the formality and the flowy pants may be an option for you too. They also have the same style in skirts. (this is all in the formal area...) big ol'' links to follow:

I also think it is too casual. I think if it were silk and in a darker color, you could get away with it. But it is too casual of a style and too bright to be for an evening wedding. I suggest wearing a dressier dress.

I agree the skirt seems too casual. I like the shape of it, though, and the colors. could you look for a skirt like that in silk or taffetta? You could do that print if it were in a dressier fabric, or maybe you could find something with a bit of glitz towards the hemline (but not cotton). Heck, you could even do a flowy skirt that length in polyester or whatever synthetic blend, it doesn''t have to be silk. I like the print with black on top, though, and black strappy heels. The key to being evening appropriate even if it isn''t BTO is the fabric and how you accessorize as well. Let me browse around the net for ya, maybe I can find some suggestions as well. I like DKS''!

Thanks for being honest! DKS, your post made me laugh! I just discovered how much I love Talbots (which is where I bought the skirt), and I definietely want to go back. It gives me another excuse to go shopping! Thanks again gals.

Oh, the fabric, while I''m not sure what it is, I know it''s not silk. I have a feeling it may be cotton...maybe. I''ll have to check.
