I am in search of a red garnet for a friend. I know they black out and have modifiers, but I am trying to find the most true to red I can. I have no cut preference, except I want it to be precision cut. I want it eye clean at least. I have about $100 to spend. I am hoping for 2.5 cts. or better. Thoughts? Thanks for your help.

precision cut at under $100 might be hard to find even for garnet, A cutter looks at the cost of the rough plus his time put into it, When it takes 3-4 hours to whip out a nice stone and the starting price of the rough was close to $75 a gram it would be hard to find. Some of the more experienced cutter have a long line of people on there waiting list to cut great gems. Good luck but there or a lot of great cutters and gem shops on the venders list. I would check there and I have seen a lot of the good but younger cutters move from places like Ebay to Etsy. Shops I like on there
https://www.etsy.com/shop/KosnarGemCo They also have a Great facebook page with great gems and prices
https://www.etsy.com/shop/DanielStairGems High quality work great gems and honest prices
https://www.etsy.com/shop/SouthernGemstones Steve Howe great cutter but is putting alot of his work in to jewelry.

I would recommend you explore etsy, facebook and other out of the way spots that you might be able to find a gem in the rough. Good luck and happy hunting. There is more to this world of Gems then price scope

Thanks. I was just hoping folks would know of some for sale since you guys are so good at searching/finding stones. I agree with what Kevin said though.

There are definitely some here.

But I am a bit worried you could eat a lot of that $100 just in the cost of shipping stones backwards and forwards before you find a nice one (if we are looking for it to have a property most red garnets dont have, and then also asking for the cheapest one out there, then it could take quite a few goes to get it right. I worry this may be costly.).
