I have been having a difficult time finding my "eloping" dress (I''m sure some of you have seen my threads and probably think that I am the most wishy-washy person ever). I''ve purchased/ordered at least 5 different dresses, but they just did not work out.

I do not want to wear a traditional wedding dress/gown since my fiance and I are getting married by ourselves. However, I do want to wear a nice dress since we are getting pictures taken around DC and will be sharing them with family and friends. I thought it would be a good opportunity to splurge on a designer dress that I normally would not even think about buying/wearing.

I decided to take a crazy day trip to NYC from DC (left on a 6:20am train, came back on a 5:05pm train). I spent some time with my friends and then headed over to Bergdorf''s with one of them to search for THE dress.

We decided to start from the bottom and work our way up. As soon as we hit the third floor, it was like heaven! There were so many beautiful dresses to try on. I ended up trying Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Doo.Ri, Prada, and Miu Miu. I was seriously having a "Pretty Woman" moment, and now must win the lottery

to be able to shop like that again.

Here''s a link to the dress that I purchased, by Doo.Ri:

It''s the first picture on the top left. Ignore the bored look on the model''s face. It''s a really pretty greyish-lavender color. I wish that there was a picture of the back because the draping is really pretty. It actually didn''t look like much on the hanger, but it fit perfectly. My friend and I actually teared up, and I just KNEW that it was the dress. I haven''t actually felt this way about the previous dresses and I am confident that I made the right choice. The best part is that I know I''ll be able to wear this dress again.

The sales associate is shipping the dress to me back here in DC so that I would not have to pay sales tax! So, I won''t have personal pictures up until later in the week.

What do you guys think? I know it''s not traditional, but I am really excited about it.

Thanks for letting me share!

It is a lovely dress.

I think it is lovely for a non traditional wedding. (meaning not a biggie with the whole pomp and circumstance(...

I see it with platinum, silver or pewter accessories...pretty earrings that dangle and a bracelet of some kind, all in white metal.

Ditto! Maybe throw in a color or two here or there, like sapphire or something.

Thanks for the lovely compliments. I actually found a video on the designer''s website -- from the Spring 2008 runway with this dress. You can see how it flows and especially, the beautiful draping on the back:

Since I am on the petite side, the dress won''t be as short on me as it is on the model.

I love the "metal" suggestions for the dress. I was thinking of simply, dangly earrings in a silvery metal, and asking to borrow a beautiful diamond bracelet....simply accessories because I want to show off the dress.

I''ve been thinking about a small bouquet, but not sure yet what I want to do.

Thanks again!
