I was wondering if it is safe to use it on coloured gems as they are softer than diamonds. Sapphires, garnets and tormaline? stuff 7 and higher? or is the psi to high?

thanks

A sapphire might be able to handle it but no other gemstones. Not a garnet and certainly not a tourmaline.

Can I use a US on a the garnet and torm? I remember Barry saying that garnet was ok in the US...I could be mistake. I guess jewel jet is alot more rough? Well thanks for saving my gems Chrono as I am thinking of purchasing one.

To be on the safe side since I wear a variety of gemstones, I only clean it in an ammonia free jewellery cleanser, rinse it in water and pat it dry (with a squirt of compressed air to avoid water staining). A garnet might be all right in a US but I''m not risking it for something that means a lot to me.

I will use a u/s with sapphires and garnets - but only if I have louped them first and know that there are no liquid inclusions. I use mine on the shortest cycle and a max of once a week. Normally all you need is to keep the piece soaked overnight in a mix of cleaner/dish soap and water and then give it a rinse in the morning.

Anything that involves steam and gemstones of any variety is a definite no...

Ah good thread. I was wondering this too.
