Oh my, where did you find Rika's ring? It's gorgeous! Does it have it's own thread?

That was quick, thank you for the link!

I want to add engraving! I have a lovely 3 stone bezel ready that is very sturdy, smooth and modern. I love the setting but I'm yearning for some vintage flair so I plan on eventually having it engraved!

LUSCIOUS ENGRAVING

Engraving adds to the movement of longing for past times. Including vintage and antique rings. Engraving creates the feeling that your ring has 'always' been here. Thus creating an art deco touch to a modern ring.

Engraving can not always be seen by bystanders and is the ultimate visual present for yourself and the one(s) close to you. A sometimes unexpected visual pleasure. Engraving adds heirloom quality to your ring....

I think airlines will now be popular in rings again. With art deco pieces, and I mean real art deco not just elements to inspire, I see airlines make a full come back! Already several have been posted in SMTB!

Good one!! Could you post some pics SB?

COLORFUL CANDY

In 2014 we will see more colored stones. Colorful like candy.
They will be more popular as e-rings and continue to go strong as a sophisticated RHR.
Besides sapphires and rubies, their 'softer' colorful sisters will be popular. Pick a candy for every day of the week!

Hahaha :D
You were a very very early innovator Fortekitty. It was just 10 years too soon :naughty:

I know you posted some beautiful examples of these in your other categories, but let's not forget about FRENCH CUTS including yours, Acinom!!! I don't see them as often as I would like, but I think they are absolutely TDF!

Wow!! This whole thread just made me smile from ear to ear.. the finery is over the top!!!! :appl:

Thank you for your kind words Puppy!!
My prediction is that french cuts will continue to go strong in 2014 but that french cut sides are sooooooo 2011-2013  :P
The question is what trend will take over the french cut trend

AIRY AIRLINES

A soft breeze of air that puts your diamond center stage
A flow of oxygen that creates enormous finger coverage.

According to SB621 airlines will make a glorious comeback. Look at these beautiful examples:

I love this thread acimon and all the accompanying pictures! :appl:

I'm with you on everything but want to add ovals...for those of us not quite in love with the pointed edges of marquise but wanting to move away from rounds and cushions. French cuts are lovely but I want to throw in rose cuts especially for diamonds by the yard necklace/bracelets and briolettes...I saw earrings made entirely of diamond briolettes and I died!!!

I wish I had pictures unfortunately I'm not as organized. Pls add some pics if you find them.....a picture is worth a 1000 words especially when it comes to bling!

Love this thread :appl: and thank you for including a couple of my rings, too!

Thank you Gemfever!! I hope you will find your airline ring :wavey:

Thanks for posting Natylad!!! And yay to alternative shapes!!

Thank you Badabling!!! I love ovals too and I totally see them coming in 2014! It's such a sleek and timeless shape and a great alternative to rounds.

Your collection is very inspiring Diamondseeker!! It's sp beautiful and well balanced. I love all the pieces I have seen from you   Your pieces always have a special edge and are so elegant and timeless.

ASSCHERS FROM AMSTERDAM

What's not to love about this fabulous cut! Asschers will rise in popularity further threathening the position of the princess cut.
The Asscher is a fabulous step cut with a mesmerizing pattern. Giving oomph to a classic ring.

PRE-QUARTER 2 UPDATE

We still have one month 2 go before we reach the end of the second quarter of 2014. And yet... we can clearly see some trends taking shape already.

What do YOU think? Did we predict well? What new trends are showing that we did not foresee?
Welcome to the pre-quarter 2 update!

Besides an urge for classics and updated vintage we see something new: Daring to be Different. This trend is also clearly showing in the halo department: it's clearly a halo... but one that's clearly different. PSer Elysian left her mark in both departments with her 'oh so art deco classic but clearly different' elegant ring.

As predicted: coloured stones are definitely here to stay. And what about a shift from ring to earlobe? Catmom and LLJSmom know everything about it.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
What can I say? It's so Art Deco, so classic vintage inspired. But it has this 'je ne sais quois'. Elysian sure dared to be different with her elegant ring

THE DIFFERENT HALO
So, it's a halo. Or is it???

As predicted, halo's are still going strong! But with these halo's, PSers are taking a different route!

5 CT IS...

Ok, I admit that till sofar 5 ct is the new 4 carat instead of the new 2 carat as predicted.
However, Mom2boys new ring had quite some impact! Will more 5 ct stones be added in 2014?

YELLOW AS THE SUN
It sure is, Mellowyellow girl!!

_18580.jpg

COLOUR!!!
Coloured stones continue to go strong! Will they eventually take over the position of the diamond? Probably not, but coloured stones add to a feeling of independence, creativity and originality!

Love this thread! If I may, I would like to add some observations from the UK?

Definitely halos, I think we're behind in terms of ring trends but I've seen two halos IRL in the last couple of months so I think there will be more. It nods to vintage/retro styling which is still big news and plus it gives that amazing finger coverage.

I don't know about the 5 carat trend here, I would maybe say in the UK 2 carats is the new 1 carat?! The 1 carat mark is a dream for most but I have definitely seen bigger diamonds recently that I would call honkers :)) That or small and delicate diamonds in simple solitaires.

I think OEC/OMCs could be big over here, again the vintage trend and knowing that you have something unique, but I haven't seen any IRL. I recently saw an ad in a bridal magazine for a jeweller selling specifically these cuts (at exorbitant prices) so it could be starting.

Funnily enough I haven't really seen coloured stones, which I thought I would, what with the Kate effect and all, but I just see diamonds.

Thank you for your reflections on the UK market!!! I guess the British are like us Dutch people: small is big enough
I never ever see 5 ct stones here in the Netherlands except on tourists. 1 ct is the new 1 ct here.

I hope old cuts will have a breakthrough in the UK. Here in the Netherlands there is a small fanbase that regularly visit antique jewelry stores.
