I thought it would be a good idea to try and photograph my collection to share with you all. Unfortunately I am finding that my new iPhone represents the true colour of my stones terribly. Is anyone else using the 14 Pro Max to take good photos? The macro function is great, it’s just the colour rendition that is terrible. I’ll start with a few that I was able to get ok photos of. I will try to take a few more each day to add to this thread.
First up is a suite of Jedi melee. I have no idea what to do with these. The sizes are all over the place. Total weight is 1.35ct

Second is a 2ct brown diamond

Next up is my 4.12ct chrysoberyl. I hate the cut on this one. It reminds me too much of a princess cut. I plan on getting this recut at some point. 8.71x7.84x5.73mm

0.91ct mint garnet 5.58x4.94x3.87mm

2.37ct unheated Mozambique cuprian tourmaline cut by Dana Reynolds. 12.1x6.5mm

Necklace with alternating princess spinel and round colorless diamond? Would look very high glam in platinum.

I can’t see myself wearing a necklace like that, but maybe a bracelet!

Just went back through my camera roll and found some older photos of some of my CS.
This one is a fairly included 10ct spess. I don’t mind the inclusions though, they make the stone glow.

1ct pair of tsavorites from Jeff Davies

1.58ct pink spinel from Tanzania. This one comes from Ivan at Adamant International. I set this one into a pinky ring however my tastes have changed a bit since then and I am wanting to reset it.

Blue spinel, I don’t recall the exact specs but it is around 1.1ct.

Red spinel from Luc Yen, I don’t recall the specs on this one either but it is around 0.75ct. This one was cut by Dana Reynolds.

Some assorted pastel tourmaline asschers. I’m a bit stumped on what to do with these too.

Your tourmalines would make an adorable easter egg pendant.

That jedi spinel suite could burn a retina! :kiss2:

Not sure of your gender but I love that brown diamond and that chrysoberyl -- I would bezel-set either one in a wide band.

I’m having trouble picturing that, although the colours do remind me of Easter! Do you have any examples?

They’re crazy bright! I wish I could use these in a halo but I don’t see how I can make that work considering how poorly matched the stones are (dimensions wise). If you look closely these could be split into 2 suites. One side of the circle is more pink and the other is more red.

I’m a man, I love the brown diamond. My plan for that one is to set it into a black zirconium tension set ring from Boone. I love the colour and size of the chrysoberyl but I hate the cut. I really don’t like princess cuts and this looks very much like a princess to me.

Beautiful collection!

Do you like modern styles? Perhaps add some diamonds and take inspiration from the Cartier meli melo line.D13B415D-BC9D-4A86-8A46-80045EF8636C.jpeg

Tiffany bracelet. Perhaps an inspired by for the pastel tourmalines? That parcel is so gorgeous it deserves to be worn.

How about something like this?
Maybe some will have to be trimmed -

They could also be set in a purposeful ombré? Or decidedly half/half?

I do like that! I think it might be a bit too chunky for my current taste. I don’t like the majority of “male” jewellery. I tend to prefer finer designs that are more unisex or feminine. I am trying to envision a a version of that with just the top part of the ring and some sort of centre stone. I had always imagined I would use these with another stone. I just haven’t been able to figure out how.
Here is my very professional drawing with my idea based on your suggestion. I think my first concern with something like this is that my stones are significantly smaller. I don’t know if they would just be swallowed up my the metal.

Love the Jedi melees, how about channel setting them in a bangle? :kiss2:

DK :))

I love that bracelet! I could definitely see myself wearing that. Do you know the name of that bracelet so that I can look up more photos, please? I would probably need some more stones, but this vendor often has similar lots I can buy.

Thank you! My setter would probably block my number if I asked him to channel set such mismatched stones They’re also really small, I think the picture makes them look larger than they are. I don’t know the mm range off the top of my head but I would say they’re all around 1.8mm. I could possibly do a channel set ring if my setter could find enough stones to work with from the lot.

If you want a halo you can do a halo! Gradient halo's can look really nice

Also depending on your style there are a lot of art deco inspired styles that can use different sizes

It’s from their 2019 blue book.

I have been home sick so I decided to pull out my bag of scrap rings and see if I can match any settings up with my loose stone collection. I came up with these 3 that should work. The first two rings are much more feminine than I would normally wear but I actually quite like them. The older I get the less I care what other people think of me too . The pictures leave a lot to be desired, I had to crop them a fair bit.

This first one is the mint garnet from the first post.

This next one is one of my earliest stones that I bought just after I finished high school. I had an account on here at the time but I can’t remember the username or password. I recall Chrono and a few other members weighing in on this one before I bought it. I bought it in 2014 for $150 on Diamond Bistro. I loved the colour but the cut was lacking somewhat. I sent it to Dana at Mastercut gems to see what he thought of it. Rachelle told me that he doesn’t usually recut customer stones under 2ct but that the colour was so fine that he would make an exception. After the recut it weighed 1.055ct and didn’t loose any face up size. The dimensions on this one are 6.1x4.7mm.
I’ve attached the sellers original photo and the photo Rachelle took after the recut. The stone is in a similar position in both photos so you can really see the difference it made. The colour difference is only because of the different lighting. I would hate to think how much this would cost me these days.

Lastly this one is a 0.98ct Luc Yen spinel. I didn’t record the dimensions of this one unfortunately. This stone actually came from the same vendor that the above spinel was originally purchased from. The cut is kind of like a mix between an angel cut and an asscher. The difference in angle between each row of pavilion facets is so slight that it looks like each side of the pavilion is made up of only a single facet unless you angle it just right in the light.

I’ve dug up a few more vendor photos of some of my stones. These are all from Jeff Davies.
The first is a 1.14ct colour change sapphire from Madagascar

Second is a strawberry quartz from Madagascar. I don’t recall the weight of this one.

Third is a 3.09ct amethyst.

I don’t recall where I bought this one from, however it is a 10.32ct strawberry quartz from Madagascar.

I also was lucky enough to buy this gorgeous trio of emeralds from the very lovely @Redwoods-hiker-girl. I would love to set these into a 3 stone ring with Paraiba or cobalt spinel melee. For now I will set them into a simple 3 stone ring to wear while I work on other projects.
