"Just Barely" Pregnant PS''ers

Lanie and Laila... congrats on hearing/seeing the HB!! Soooo exciting!!
Laila... my pants aren''t fitting right either
40.gif
I feel so bloated!! I''m muffin top city over here
32.gif
Although I haven''t really gained any weight
33.gif

Noel... glad you had a nice vacay. And I''m hoping a happy and healthy 9 months for you! I''m sorry - I didn''t mean to make you feel forced to post. So cute that you named her already!

6w6d today. I''m looking forward to my appt Tuesday. I''ve gotta figure this out - I work for a hospital, and my insurance covers everything if I deliver through my hospital''s network. But my OBGYN works through an out of network hospital. I guess I''ll have her refer me to an in-network OBGYN. I''d love to have her deliver, but I think it''s around 3K out of pocket. Her hospital has a great ''baby'' reputation, though. And delivering at my hospital = harder to get to, in the city, lots of traffic and parking fees. Decisions, decisions.

Glad you girls are doing well!!! Lanie, good luck telling your folks! I called my brother Sunday (my brother and DH are really good friends). My brother had gone to an afternoon wedding, and was at a bar for the after party. He was pretty ripped. Anyway, he FLIPPED out! High fiving his buddies, screaming "OMG, I''m gonna be an UNCLE!!". It was like he won the lottery! Too cute!

Lynnie (first, let me say a belated congratulations!!), just popping in because I was actually going to ask you about whether you were planning to deliver at the hospital you work for. That''s where my OB/GYN has privileges (she''s on the faculty), but I''m not too sure about it and my friend who is a student at the affiliated med school says to go to the hospital a couple blocks over if I have to be in the city. But I hated my former OB/GYN practice, which has privileges there, so I''d have to find some other practice. Bleargh. I''m not planning to get pregnant for awhile, but I wanted to start looking at other options sooner rather than later. I''m guessing your other choice is "A," just above the city? I have a preggo friend who will deliver at "L," in the western burbs, and I''ve heard good things about the maternity services at both. Hopefully DH and I have plenty of time before we have to worry about this, but I think it''s good to get other people''s opinions, so if you don''t mind sharing how you decide what to do, I''d be grateful!

Congratulations to all the other just-barely pregnant ladies here, too! Best wishes for happy and healthy babies

Lynnie--yay for Uncle High Five! That''s so cute! Good luck on the hospital decision and a special good luck at your appt Tues. Make sure to tell us about it!

Oh my stars...my morning sickness is getting worse by the day. It''s actually evening sickness. My DH and I were on our way to have our weekly dinner with friends and I had him turn around and I cried the whole way home. I was so nauseated. I''m not a cryer at ALL. It takes a lot for me to cry and I''ve already cried 3 times in 2 weeks! I digress...anyway can anyone chime in on what to do about nausea? I need to go back and read posts on it but the preggo thread is so long it might take me awhile. Food isn''t helping...it makes it worse. I couldn''t sleep last night bc I felt so sick. Ugggghhhhhh......

lanie there are nausea meds (zofran or a generic) and i am so glad my doc suggested them at like 6 weeks. i was going to tough it out but really it was hampering my existence and i am still on them at 19 weeks (though a lower dose than weeks 6-10). it didn't cure my nausea entirely but took it a notch or two in the right direction.

eating regularly small snacks of whatever helps. applesauce yogurt soups and carb like pasta and potatoes are what helped me. oranges i was in love with for their nice smell and burst of sugar, but i can see that was probably my specific fix. a little bit of regular coke on really horrible days - yes the caffiene + sugar does something magic. and sucking on hard candies helped me a bit, since the actual act of eating/sucking suppressed my nausea.

also stool softner if you are backed up, the stuffed-up belly putting pressure on your stomach can make the nausea worse. and walking or other movement if you can and not eating huge meals, both help keep the vagus nerve (that causes nausea) from getting overactive.

and some people find vitamin b6, acupressure wrist bands for sea sickness, or ginger help them, but those didn't help me. don't overdose on the b6 - i think it is like 25 mg 3x a day or something but check with your doc if you are going to take it.

Grrr, lost my post.

Anyhoo, I meant to say Lanie, sorry to hear you are feeling cruddy. I was doing great all week and got a little recurrence yesterday and today. I can definitely tell the MS is all hormone related, and I know I had some shifts because I was miserable the last two weeks, then felt all happy and energetic this week with no MS, then 2 days ago got snappy and the MS was back a little. I found crackers, fruit, toast, anything non greasy worked well for me. Water is good, too much makes you feel like you''re on a boat. I was only good when I was actually eating, then 10 min later I was icky again. I think my main problem was my gag reflex, so eating distracted it for a little bit! Brushing my teeth was a nightmare. I sucked on lemon drops, that helped just to keep the gag reflex suppressed too. I''m just rambling but hopefully you can find some ways to cope! The first day I was MS free I was literally counting the hours and taking none of it for granted! I felt like a new person!!! Hope you get some relief soon!

10 weeks tomorrow! That sounds like a lot! I have my next US on Wednesday so I am excited to see if the LO measures close to that. I am dating according to the measurement last time, which I think is a little behind.

Thanks Lynnie! You must be so excited for your own appointment on Tuesday! Cute about your brother's response. :)

Lanie, I've heard people recommend sucking on preggie pops (GNC has them), or if you can't find them, jolly ranchers for morning sickness. So sorry you're having a hard time.

I suck on vitamin C pills (lemon) for nausea.

and I totally hear split on brushing teeth.

Octavia... Thanks! Actually, my OB works through "HR", which I''ve heard good things about. I''ve heard great things about the hospital a couple blocks over, also. My friend had her IVF twins there. "L" is in the same network as my hospital. I wouldn''t mind going through "L", but it''s kinda a hike from my house, and getting there during rush hour would be a nightmare...
Two of my co-workers delivered at my hospital, and both say that their stay was "meh"... One I actually visited shortly after she delivered via c-section, and she was recovering on a stretcher in this teeny room. She said her stay left much to be desired, and plans to go elsewhere if she has a second child. But she''s a little bit of a drama queen to begin with...
If "L" were close to me, it''d be a no-brainer. If my insurance allowed me to go anywhere, I''d stick with my OB and "HR".
So... I don''t know yet. I''ll find out as much as I can from my OB Tuesday, and then call my insurance company with my remaining questions. If I do decide to go through my hospital, I''ll def be asking you for a referral
1.gif
. I just can''t see paying 3K out of pocket, which is what I''ve heard from coworkers about going through out of network hospitals. So, if that''s the case, my only choices are my hospital and "L". Or "M"
32.gif
. No way am I going to "M". I''ll keep you updated, in any event!

My update... I had another spot this morning. A few drops of red in the toilet, and one wipe of red/pink. Then nothing (it''s been 2 1/2 hrs). TMI alert - DH and I DTD last night, and my internet research is making me lean towards thinking my cervix is soft and got a little irritated. It''s been 10 days since my last spot, and I''m not cramping or anything, BBs still sore, still thirsty as all get out. No M/S... I swear, I''d take M/S every day if it meant I wouldn''t spot!! It''s frustrating being worried... Tuesday can''t come fast enough for me!

Lanie, I''m sorry you''re not feeling well... I hope it gets better soon!!

Split... Congrats on 10 weeks!! And good luck with your US!

Lynnie- DEFINITELY related to DTD. Please don''t worry until your appt. Its ok! Don''t let it stop you, but just be a little em... gentler. Even though you probably were, there is sooo much more blood supply ''down there'', things are really going to be sensitive/fragile. Not always a bad thing......
31.gif

Thanks, SS... that''s what I figured, but it''s nice to have a little consolation
1.gif

We will def be gentler next time... I''m telling DH no more DTD when he''s buzzed. He had a few beers last night, and he forgets to be gentle

Lanie- UGH, I feel for you. 6 weeks is right around when my all day sickness went from tolerable to horrible. I've tried pretty much every remedy out there because being sick at work just is not an option. Fortunately, my sickness follows the same pattern as yours and gets much worse in the evening. I tried the accupressure wrist bands and they really helped for a couple days, and then not so much. For about the past 5 days I have been taking B6 three times a day, which I refer to as my "magic cure." And I do the B6 in combination with zofran, as well. It makes me functional during the day, at least, but the nights are still tough unfortunately. And actually, I second cara on the oranges. Citrus in general is one of the few appealing things to me. Eating small amounts often does not make me feel better, but it does keep me from feeling worse with an empty stomach. Cheerios are my bland carb of choice, but the B6 has allowed me to make some healthier choices. I just cannot wrap my head around eating things I would not normally eat just because I am pregnant

Lynnie- I bet the wild night caused the tiny bit of bleeding too
2.gif
And I think I would take a tiny bit of bleeding over feeling flu-ish all day long! Though I know the bleeding is scary, too.

I am 9 weeks today! It seems kind of crazy that I've known now for almost 6 weeks about being pregnant. I guess overall it is going fairly quickly (since work always keeps me busy), but I am dreading the at least month plus of morning sickness that I have left.

My practice does a 10 weeks ultrasound and I am really looking forward to it! The babe should be a lot more human and less lump-like since my 7 week scan. My inflexible work schedule is going to drive me insane for the duration of this pregnancy, though. Scheduling each appointment seems like such a huge effort. Boo.

eta- I took my first all-bloat belly pic today, so at least I have something to compare to later. I'm sure I'll look back on that photo shortly and think I was crazy about the bloat
3.gif

This is scary.... but I''m dipping my toe in here. I have a blood test on Wednesday! When was everyone able to get their first appointment? I had assumed it would be 6 weeks, but now I''m reading online that a lot of people don''t go in until 10/12 weeks. That seems like a crazy long time!
7.gif

I didn''t go in until what I thought was 7 weeks...and I didn''t even get to see the baby or see an actual Doctor.

I saw the Doctor the following week--we also had a dating u/s and found out I was actually 9 weeks.

Yay welcome, kunzite!
36.gif
My first appt ended up being around 6 weeks due to work schedule stuff, but my practice usually does the first visit at 8 weeks. Any symptoms yet? I think my only really early one other than sore bbs was unusual (for me) food aversions.

No real symptoms yet. I''ve had light cramping pretty much since cd1 which I''m hoping goes away soon so it will quit messing with my head
26.gif

I was afraid you ladies would say closer to 8 weeks! I''m already off work the day I hit 6 weeks so I was hoping I could do an appointment that day so I wouldn''t have to miss work. Trying to keep this in the closet for awhile!

I got my BFP on 10DPO on a Wednesday. I had an appointment scheduled with my old practice for the following Monday to confirm. She just did a urine preggy test and talked to me for a few minutes. At around 5 weeks I had my "nurses visit" and at 6.5 weeks they had me come in for a dating scan. That is when I decided to switch practices to a bigger hospital. I was seen by the nurse at the new practice at 7.5 weeks. Then by a midwife at 10.5 weeks, and every 4th week from that point.

Kunzite--I went in 2 days after my positive test to do bloodwork and a follow up 48 hour bloodwork. I''m with an RE though, so the good thing is that they have you come in for 2 ultrasounds before releasing you to the OB at 8 weeks. I''m assuming you are with an OB not an RE, so not much help here. Congrats again!!!

Thanks girls for the m/s tips. I bought some wristbands for both wrists and although I look like I work at Hot Topic bc they are black, they might be helping. I''ve been eating every 3 hours and the oranges totally helped! (thanks Cara!) I don''t know how I''m going to manage at work. We shall see.....

Lynnie--did the spotting stop? So many girls on here wrote about spotting and are now with healthy little ones. It''s pretty common but I can understand how it causes worry!

Oh and kunzite--I had weird cramps off and on and still do but much less. It''s scary, but I think this first tri is a lot about faith and just trusting that any twinge or cramp is supposed to happen!

Laila--are you 8 weeks today??? You seem miles ahead of me! You are like that cool older cousin I want to be just like someday!!! Hahaha!

Welcome Kunzite!

Hi Lanie! Yes, I turned 8 weeks today! It might seem like I'm farther ahead, but you're really so close. Our babies could be born within days of each other.
1.gif
I'm really jealous of my cousin, she is 13 weeks ahead of me, already hit 21 weeks!! That seems like so far away!

I bought my first pair of maternity pants today. They are cute denim capris from Target's Liz Lange maternity line. Love them! I have a little belly, but I think it's mostly just bloat still. Anyone else have crazy baby bloat?

Welcome, Kunzite!!! My first appt is tomorrow, I''ll be 7w2d.

Lanie, yes, the spotting stopped. It was only that one wipe that morning. Thank goodness.

Laila, I''m with ya on the bloat. I''m down to one pair of jeans that I feel totally comfortable in - they have some stretchiness to them, and aren''t causing the muffin top look.

Congrats Kunzite!

PSA for the ladies with expanding waistline but not ready for maternity garb (myself included)... I picked up a bella band at a botique store and really liked it. Got it in white, but realized when I got home that my dark wash jeans transfer dye on it and turn it blue! Sooo.. I went and got the knockoff Target version in black (BE band, made my bella band) but definitely lesser quality. It drives me nuts, rolls and doesn''t have the ''hold'' that I need. I''d reccommend paying the extra $10 and get the actual Bella Band. Off my soap box!

Hi Ladies,

I will have to catch up with everyone here, but for now, just wanted to report that I have my HCG results. I am only 11DPO, maybe 10DPO today, and my HCG level is 50. I got a positive OPK on CD17, so I ovulated on CD18 or CD19 (24-36 hours after the positive.) Today is CD 29, so that is 11 or 10 DPO, depending upon when I ovulated.

50 is still good, right? The RE suggested I come back in a week (message is delivered through a nurse, I almost never speak to him and certainly not about routine matters like this.) I said - "a WHOLE WEEK?" She said I could come in sooner if I want, but that he recommended a week. I discussed with DH, who also suggests I just wait the week. Whatever will be, will be, at this point.

Thoughts? I know 50 is in range based on the betabase. HCG levels have to start somewhere, right? The nurse said something like the doctor didn't know if it was low just because I ovulated later. Well, I DID ovulate LATER. I always do! I thought that's why I've been going there!
40.gif

Oh, and definitely meditating tonight.

LV, definitely don''t sweat an HCG level of 50 at 11DPO. That''s perfectly normal. Heck, some people don''t even get a positive pregnancy test at 11 DPO!

Thank you, Puppmom! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! That''s what I need to hear!

Last time at 12DPO, my HCG was only 27, so at least it is higher and a day earlier this time. I know it''s not really a true comparison, but it makes me feel a little better.

LV I think it depends a bit when your LO implants. Tough tough tough, this waiting bit! Good luck!

Ditto what Pupp said. I''m on another, less cool, preggo site and they post their Beta numbers and I saw lower numbers than that for 13dpo. You are fine!!!

Unless you know when the little bean faceplanted...i mean implanted...then any # is a good number! and, depending on how sensitive your first test was, you seem to be right on track for doubling...10 for a +, 20 by yesterday, 50 by now...dear, you''re doing great!

LV, I think 50 is great for where you''re at!

Did they also check your progesterone?

Puppmom, Lanie, Cara, Charbie and Laila - Thank you for the reassurance. I called the office today to tell them that I would just wait until Monday. There are two nurses at my office. I spoke with the other nurse this morning. I said that I would just wait, it is what it is, and yeah, it would have been nice if the HCG were like 170 or something. She was like - Are you kidding me? 50 is totally normal for where you are at. We NEVER even test this early!!! Totally, totally, totally normal!

So, I felt much better after that, but still anything can happen at this point. I need to just ENJOY where I am right now!
12.gif

Laila - They said my progesterone and estrogen levels were fine. I did not ask for the numbers. I've never paid much attention to these levels in the past, so I didn't even think to ask. I am supplementing with progesterone pills.

Just to reassure you LV, mine was only 194 on 17 DPO! I think I had a late implanter. However, last week it was over 50,000! I got to see the lil one's heartbeat again today....174bpm!! He is measuring on track, whew. They say not to worry about individual beta numbers, but to worry if they don't double within 48-72 hours.
