On the way back from Southwest Diamond Cutters I stopped into one of the Diamond and Gold shops (there is a retired police officer who is very nice and gives it to you straight kinda guy who works there) well I told him what I wanted to do with grandma’s jewelry and wanted to look at their earrings for size reference.

This is what my diamonds would look like, I’m in love but still on the fence about a halo

He got to showing me some of their gorgeous estate jewelry (which his wife loves as well and who gets to pick out a new lovely piece every 6 months *swoon*) I should have taken a photo of some of the Art Deco pieces but didn’t :(2

Well he offered to have me look over and try on some of their large carat rings and I happily obliged.

This was gorgeous but not ideal cut RB and just over 6 carats (cut for weight) it was hazy in person even after cleaning it and I guessed it had strong fluorescence

Welp I guessed right! Fun fun

Then I tried on their 7 ct emerald cut which look like a mirror in person, so sad to see such large diamonds cut so poorly. PriceScope does teach you so much.

oh that IS fun! Those are some big ugly diamonds!

The studs look like a perfect size!

:lol-2: When I saw the RB I was like oh Lordy that sucker is hazy, I think the sales person appreciated my opinion but he did say I was a bit more educated on diamonds than most of their customers

Edited: yes, my fat earlobes appreciate a 1carat diamond but I’m sure my husband doesn’t lol

:cry2: @ Dead EC.

How fun! Thanks for sharing your photos with us. :D

The earrings look great on you! The size is perfect! You could get a set of halo jackets for yours, which would give you the option of wearing them with or without a halo! And your earlobes are very pretty, for that matter!! :)
It's fun to try on jewelry! Looks like you had a good time and thanks for sharing! :)

Great idea to try some on! I was all about the halos but now I think it might be a bit jazzy for every day...

Jackets could be the answer!

Did southwest diamond cutters provide any new info about a recut?

After discussion on another thread @SimoneDi suggested that if the clarity isn’t improved on and the diamond sparkles as is, it’s not worth the risk. @Starfacet also agreed and she has seen the stones in person, so I’m just going to leave it. I’m going to go ahead and see about getting them haloed since they will be different sizes

That’s exciting @KKJohnson! Or you can look into setting them in bezels and getting jackets. That way you will be able to reuse the jackets should you get new studs (colored stones, pearls). Either way, they will look great once set!

I think that's a GREAT idea and I can't wait to see!

Plus, you kind of seem like the kinda gal that can pull off some major bling on your lobes. I have super tiny lobes and I wish I had the space that yours do! It's going to look PERFECT!!!!!

Wait did you have some leftover tiny diamonds from the reset of the marquise? Could those be used to halo??

I do, but not enough to make a halo. I was going to send them off with the rings and see if he can use them if not

These are 1.94mm which I have 5 of

And these are 2.6mm (which I really like) and have 5 of...there are also 3 other size mm I have but it like 1-3 of each.
