and I''m not sure what I think just yet.
First thing I noticed was that it''s really well cut and sparkley ( I talking super sparkley) and that the size is perfect. the only thing thats bugging me is that it may be a bit darker than what I was after. It was called a medium orange but I would say dark orange. I''ll take some photos and post them. I have ten days to decide.

Other than the color being darker than you thought, are you pleased with the stone? Dan has some gorgeous spessartite's on his site right now.

I look forward to seeing your pictures.

I''m really looking forward to the photos. Is it darker than it appeared in Dan''s photo? Opps, or did you get it from Dan? Color is sure tricky via computers, but hey, how else would we get to see soooooo much, eh? Sundragon

When I am buying Dan''s gemstones, my past experience with his stones are that they are a tad darker than his pictures. So if he says its dark, it''s really dark. His medium is my medium dark.

I am asking irina for help with re sizing pics. I took two. One shows the sparkle and one shows the brown tone. I really want a pure orange.

Yes other than the color it''s a beauty but...well you''ll see what I mean soon.

Looking forward to the pics! It's good that it's super sparkly even though the color is darker than what you expected. When stones are too dark...you can lose much of the sparkle.

See. Sparkley but w/ brown tone. I'm thinking I might have to return it. What do you think? Sorry about the finger print on it .

Thanks Irina.

And here was the original pic. looks a bit more salmon maybe?

I think it''s pretty, but definitely has some brown in it. Will you always look at it and know it wasn''t exactly what you wanted? If so, I would return it. But, I think it''s nice!

It is a lovely stone. Very sparkly, but I see what you mean about the brown. I prefer the "fanta orange" spessartites, too.

I vote return - it''s definitely more brown IRL than it appeared. I''d look for a lighter one myself.

I think it will have to go back too. So sad!
But I really want a brighter stone.

It''s a bummer, but hold out for a brighter one. This didn''t do it for me. It''s out there, good luck in your search IK!!!

Agreed.

I''m so sorry it didn''t turn out as you wanted. I would probably return it as well. I think the brown tone would bother me. It''s so hard to get a true feel for a colored gem from pictures. I''ve found you really need to see them in person.

I sent it back and am on the hunt once again.

i.k., I doubt you'll be pleased with anything less than a genuine Namibian spessartite, which has the purest orange color due to a high percentage of manganese and low iron content. Those stones are becoming scarce and expensive because they're largely mined-out.

Most Nigerian stones have some brown mask which I personally don't mind in most cases. I think the iron-influenced brownish-oranges and orange-reds, which feature smoldering interior brilliance that explodes as they're moved in the light, can be among the most attractive spessartites. But that's a matter of personal taste. Actually, I like nearly all spessartites!

Good luck on the hunt IK.

Pretty stone, but I hear what you are saying. Same reasons as why I returned my stone.

My personal rule of thumb is that if there are nagging doubts, there will *always* be nagging doubts ... so deal with it right away. If I am going to buy a gemstone, it has to jump out at me - I have to LOVE it, or it goes back

Gemstones are purchased for their value ... for us the lions share of that value comes right down to how they make us feel when we look at it

We are going to ask Dan for another stone to preview, we are considering the 2.78 round he has on the main page. I hope you find just what you are looking for!

I''m going to keep looking and asking around. I guess it may take a little longer but thats okay. I will buy from dan again in the future though since I really liked the cut of the stone. Tourmaline is on my wish list.
