Hi Friends, last time we went to Kauai we did a helicopter tour and loved it!!!!
This time hubby wants to do a boat ride of the Na Pali coast. I get sick with lots of motion; I can't do roller coasters. I did the Navatek in Oahu but it is a different type of boat.
Has anyone been on a catamaran? How much motion is involved? Also, do any of you suggest prescription medication if I do do this or just dramamine.
Sorry. . . I know I am being a big chicken. TIA for any thoughts or suggestions

Take the non-drowsy dramamine beforehand. Better safe than sorry because once you''re seasick, it''s over.

we took a catamaran from one tahiti island to another, it was a pretty big boat and greg did not get seasick but he has gotten seasick on smaller boats. i don''t know if there are different sizes of catamarans though! i would take some meds with him just in case (the over the counter stuff) and go for it!

Okay, there are two choices of catamarans. . . one is a 34 foot which the ride lasts 4 hrs.
The other choice is a 40 foot boat which lasts about 5-6hrs. I don''t know if 6 feet makes that much of a difference.

I remember taking a boat trip to some obscure island off of the coat of Maui and it was so choppy and people were getting sick left and right. That being said, I have many more memories of perfectly pleasant trips around the coast of Hawaii. It really just depends on how the winds are. I was on a 60'' trimaran (like a catamaran but three hulls.... I thnk) for a week in the Virgin Islands and everything was great until the last day when things were really rocky.

... I think you''ll be fine but you may want to ask about cancellation policies if the weather isn''t too bad. ie can you opt out and a get a refund if the winds are acting up(even if they decide to run the trip)

Yes, take a dramamine before hand (maybe even one the day before, and another an hour or two before) - also take a 24 hour sudafed a couple of hours before. I also get seasick and the occasional vertigo for no apparent reason. The 24 hour sudafed has cured it every time.

Yay to Kauai!!!!

I get seasick on cruise ships. I try every time and always think it''s gonna be different (different boat, different water, different time of day etc) - nothing has been failsafe for me, but another thing that I didn''t see on here was ginger. Ginger candy or crystallized dried ginger are good homeopathic additions to dramamine. Dramamine ALWAYS makes me pass out and sleep through the sickness - so it works, but I''m sleeping i.e. miss seeing the fishies

. Sucking on hard candy helps too (I think it distracts or pops your inner ear or something). The only other advice I have is NEVER take your eyes off the distant horizon - this really helps on water and if you are ever in a small plane (propeller). Once you feel the

coming on....it''s over from there....lol

Have an awesome time and POST ALL PICS!!! I am dying to see the NaPali Coast and will live vicariously!!!

We did the four hour sunset booze cruise along the Na Pali coast. It was wonderful. Open bar and light appetizers. I didn''t have any problem with seasickness but a dramamine couldn''t hurt. It was our favorite activity during our vacation.
