Khalil Mahmoud

I don't think all students from all countries have the same intent in mind. But then again, anything information certain countries want, all they have to do is hack.

They hack, we hack, everybody hack hacks :mrgreen2:

Do you agree with the president's plan to do the same to American citizens? He wants to deport them to El Salvador.
What about the Neo-Nazi groups in the US, should they be deprived of their right to free speech, their citizenship, and deported?

I have to admit, I'm not aware of American citizens being deported to a foreign country and what was the crime be addressed for them?

Neo-Nazi groups are disgusting but they are American citizens and are closely monitored. The outside influence of another nation causing large demonstrating bordering on riots or cruelty to students should have immediate expulsion. We are not here to aid in hate inciters from other nations.

If you're talking about grant money, it is not allocated with that intent. IMO withholding federal grant money as a punitive measure is wrong. There are stipulations in the grant contract that must be followed and when not met, funds can be withdrawn but the reasons are directly related to the purpose of the grant. However, I agree that universities are obligated to ensure that students have safe access to their educational facilities. State Boards of Higher Education/Boards of Trustees are the first step in disciplining universities who fail to do so. I suspect that fear of lawsuits from various groups is one reason universities fail to sometimes act in the best interests of their students. That isn't an excuse for their failure but may be a reason for it.

It's the responsibility of the Boards that govern private and state universities to ensure the schools meet their obligations and should investigate campus violence (in cooperation with law enforcement when necessary) and discipline or remove administrators whose responsibility it is to maintain student safety without (pardon the cliché) throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

The grant money is the pendulum that makes the clock tick. You're right in the fact that it is not titled, "this is to help insure equality and safety in American institutions" but it can help correct that current problem. The grant money can be reinstated later but not at the expense of a certain faith on campus. I don't think any of us would have wanted to be one of the targeted students when this harassment was happening.

 I agree but it comes down to the very, very secure critical information being carried back from a US facility to another country.

The president said he wants to do this. It's been all over the news the past few days.

For example- give up on the US Constitution and our free speech rights.
or let’s defund colleges that have had these demonstrations… That includes cancer research and other things that doesn’t match the policies of the current administration.

...colleges which have allowed these demonstrations which target and threaten a certain segment of our citizens. College demonstrations have been going on since the mid-sixties and never have they been this incendiary toward a certain faith. If they want to demonstrate, I understand. Walk the everyday streets with your signs and stop the hate. We know that's not what is happening on college campuses.

Free speech ends where another's rights begin.

I was on a volunteer project all day yesterday and haven't had the TV on today so I'm missing details, sorry.

It's no worse than our military texting war plans via the Signal app or DOGE and its leader getting their fingers in places where they shouldn't when we have no idea what will be done with our info and to whom it will be sold/leaked. Remember that the ex and again prez discussed classified information with a journalist and staffer (it's on tape and available on YouTube) that he wasn't authorized to take with him from the WH and bragged about it. When we set the bar low for our own behavior, it's a waste of energy to expect the enemies from without to act better than the enemies from within.

Interesting, isn't it, that our government has been so quiet recently about the American hostages. Perhaps they're too busy drawing up plans for the resort they want to build there when the war ends, if it ever ends.

Hostages are unfortunately easily forgotten by the general public, especially when their captivity goes on for a long time and especially when there isn't a famous figure -- celeb or athlete -- among them. People are peculiar that way.

I don't think that is a fair assessment. We haven't forgotten the hostages and from what the released hostages have shared, captivity was a nightmare. That is the main thrust of the ongoing battles, they want the hostages released and the capability of it happening to others removed.

I was on a volunteer project all day yesterday and haven't had the TV on today so I'm missing details, sorry.

No need to apologize. Staying away from the news is better for our mental health.

I want to respond but I think we might get into trouble so for both our sakes, let's cover our butts and head back to the discussion previously.

@Sunrises Sunsets
I ask again. Respectfully.
Where do you get your news?

ie- I watch CNN, Fox, CBS…
Subscribe to NY Times. Washington Post.

I apologize for not answering earlier, I actually did type out a response but I don't know if I didn't save it or said something wrong which I try to carefully avoid but anyway...

I am like you and get any news I have from multiple sources but when quoting or representing something that is documented, I try to add the link.

I do use AI but am careful to read all the bullets regarding the subject I'm researching to find alignment with the information provided or if there is dissention within.

For some research, I go straight to the horse's mouth, I also like the NIH, Library of Congress records and so forth.

In conclusion, I would say we have a lot in common information-wise. It is the sorting of details which can vary between sources that sets us apart in many thoughts. That doesn't mean you're a bad person ;)2. Peace!

I don't believe that for one moment. I meet so many good people in this world and I'm sure you are one of them.

Thank you for saying this. I choose to stay out of this active conversation and will remain so - just 'liking' some posts I agree with. But I was thinking of providing a positive note to this understandable world view which you countered here that was shared by a couple posters.

I just don't have the right words. I used to be very cynical. I totally get the mindset. Somehow the harder things have gotten for me (personally not just in politics), the more I've turned into an optimist -- yet I still don't have the words. I know that is not very convincing :lol-2:

Aaaaaad it’s happened again. Another green card holder detained. From NYT “Mohsen Mahdawi, a legal permanent resident, has lived in the United States for 10 years and was arrested in Vermont. He has not been charged with a crime.”

They took him at was what supposed to be a naturalization hearing.

This, the same day that the gov said they wouldn’t try to get the person mistakenly sent to El Salvador back.

The US has fallen.

This, in defiance of court orders. But who’s going to enforce a court order?
The statement made claimed the wrongly deported man was a “terrorist” despite the lack of any evidence.

Governor Josh Shapiro’s house is attacked- but that surely has nothing to do with Antisemitism because it’s not an Arabic attacker.
And no need for the executive branch to make any sort of statement - after all, Shapiro is a “blue governor”

Really David. Do you think anti semitism only comes from the Muslim sector? I see it from many. Even from other Jews. Some feel “progressive” Jews will be the real downfall of Israel and the Jewish population

If the attempted murder of Governor Josh Shapiro and his family on the first night of Passover is not enough for American Jews to realize that your political allegiance will not safeguard you, then nothing will.

From what I heard on the news his social media showed hatred for democrats, women and also Shapiro explicitly.

I think that’s his point. I think he’s being facetious. He is highlighting the fact that there are deporting people for no reason under the guise of anti-Semitism yet here is a real attack that’s anti-Semitic and they aren’t making a statement as such.

Mahdawi is a key student leader of CUAD and Columbia SJP and has been promoting numerous relatives who are terrorists.

“But Mr. Mahdawi took a step back from student organizing in March 2024, before the establishment of encampments on campus and the takeover of a campus building, Hamilton Hall. In interviews at the time, he said this was driven in part by his immigration status and his beliefs as a practicing Buddhist. For two years, he was the president of the Columbia University Buddhist Association.”

Mr. Mahdawi’s friend Mikey Baratz described him as deeply empathetic and said that, at his core, Mr. Mahdawi believed that all humans deserved to be treated with dignity. Mr. Mahdawi reached out to Mr. Baratz about six months ago because he wanted to meet Israeli students at Columbia — Mr. Baratz is Jewish and was born and raised in Israel until he left at the age of 12.

They would spend hours talking about their lives and found surprising common ground. Mr. Baratz, who graduated from Columbia in December with a master’s degree in international security policy, recently applied for a job at The New York Times.

“This is a Palestinian. I’m an Israeli. Our people are at war,” Mr. Baratz, 31, said. “And his willingness to actually hear and actively learn and understand the Israeli experience — I mean, I’ve never met anyone who so quickly was willing to take feedback.”

Yes I understand. I too was being facetious
Except for the last part I wrote
I was being serious there
Dead serious

He’s a terrorist supporter. Fact
Check out his social media
I don’t give a fig what his friends say
Not exactly truthful individuals

An Israeli vouching for the man is not enough??????
At this point, the government needs to do is call you a terrorist and violá. Now we can send you to a prison camp in El Salvador.
And it was made clear today that American citizens can be terrorists too!
Deport’em!!!
Missy - you couldn’t miss the sarcasm in my comment. White hooded anti semites? No worries.
Dark skinned? Deport them !!
No trial needed

"Home grown are next, you gotta build five more places."
That was said today. On tape.

There is no reason rationalizing this. None.

An Israeli vouching for the man is not enough??????

No. Not even close

At this point, the government needs to do is call you a terrorist and violá.

Look at hs social media David. I cannot link it here due to the rules. He is calling/has called for the destruction of Israel and death to all who are "infidels"

White hooded anti semites?

You have a lot more to worry about from the Jihadists
You are letting yourself be brainwashed by the media

As for Mr. Mahdawi, Let him and all the others have due process and hopefully justice will be served.
Anyone who does any digging can see what type of person he really is.

He has said on many occasions "by any means necessary" and has called for israel to be "wiped off the map"
Yeah if these allegations prove true good riddance.

In a pro Hamas demonstration in 2024 he said "there is nothing more honorable than dying for a noble cause"

Don't come to this country and try to destroy us and our way of life
They were guests here and they are calling for death to America.
Not OK
Not acceptable
And if you think it is I have nothing more to say to you

Let due process show the truth
I just hope the truth comes out
I hope justice is served in his case
And all the others
The media is so heavily biased against the truth
But let's be real about who this person is

He is not a peaceful individual nor does he believe in peace with Israel or the USA

@missy I didn’t say anything on his IG. I could not find a Facebook. All I saw was Twitter and other people referencing things but I really can’t take Twitter as a reliable source. Is this even a photograph of him or a cousin? I saw some reference to a cousin.

There’s another story about a student who has been in the US since age 7, (originally from South Korea) who participated in the demonstrations. Ice is hunting her down.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials visited several residences, called for help from federal prosecutors and searched Ms. Chung’s university housing on March 13.

The involvement of federal prosecutors was particularly notable. According to Ms. Chung’s lawsuit, agents apparently seeking her searched two residences on the Columbia campus with warrants that cited a criminal law known as the harboring statute, aimed at those who give shelter to noncitizens present in the United States illegally.”

The bottom line is, they are hunting people down who participated in these demonstrations and shipping them off in detention centers in other (conservative) parts of the country. That is not justice.

“Like many thousands of students nationwide, Yunseo raised her voice against what is happening in Gaza and in support of fellow students facing unfair discipline,” said Ms. Ahmad, a co-director of CLEAR. “It can’t be the case that a straight-A student who has lived here most of her life can be whisked away and potentially deported, all because she dares to speak up.”

I can’t agree with much this current administration is doing but I do agree with deporting those who come here to try destroying our country and way of life and those of our allies. And due process is necessary to separate the lies from the truth. Many are hiding behind the first amendment and in many cases it just doesn’t apply. Let’s see how this plays out. Both men (not commenting on anyone else because I don’t know and don’t have time now to research it) who we are discussing in this thread absolutely do support terorism and called for the destruction of Israel. The only democracy in the Middle East. Because Israel is standing in their way. And then we’re next. I know this ruffles feathers but look at other countries. Not good

You are letting yourself be brainwashed by the media
Clearly one of us is.

No. Not even close

You made a post about Israel and its wonders.
There are many people in Israel who do not automatically hate every Palestinian.
Many Arabic and Palestinians want to live in harmony.
There’s a peace movement there.
Thankfully.
Maybe it’s not well covered in the media some of us intake.
White supremacy is a very real threat based on the news I read.
And this thread is about the rights of people right here in the US.
So, US citizens who agree with violent Palestinians- or even Hamas.
If their thoughts are offensive or even violent- ship them to a gulag in El Salvador????
Do you believe that will prevent others from having those thoughts- or possibly encourage more of it???

Kind of ironic posting a pic of some man holding a gun as some sort of “proof’
Has he shot any puppies or goats?

Sounds like a real hater =/

Mohsen Mahdawi: “To be antisemitic is unjust, is unjust. And the fight for the freedom of Palestine and the fight against antisemitism go hand in hand, because injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
-60 minutes

The very policies we’re discussing here- THEY are the threat to our way of life. And they’re not “ theoretical” at this point. They are REAL policies.
Nowadays “ due process “ includes being virtually kidnapped by masked men and shipped to a for profit “ detention center” hundreds or thousands of miles away
