I placed my ordered with Jeff White on February 12th, for a light blue sapphire. He told me that it would take about 2 months. Originally what i wanted was an aqua, after i saw the gorgeous aqua that he has on his website http://www.whitesgems.com/gallery/1011071.htm ( i fell in love with that color) but then he advised me to try the sapphire route because it was better for daily wear. Well the 2 months timeframe he gave me is up, and today i received an email from his saying that its been extremely hard for him to find a lighter sapphire and that he doesn''t want to keep me waiting. He says he has darker blues and to let him know what i wanted to do.

I''m not a huge fan of dark blue sapphires, because i think you can''t see the the steps as well (i want an asscher cut). Anyway I don''t know what to do. I don''t know if i should just go to my original idea and get the aqua, or tell him to do the darker sapphire even though i might not love it. I want to love and adore my ring, not only like it. You see my ering that i have now, its a princess cut diamond in a channel setting, and i like it, i don''t love it! but it works for now, it lets people now i''m engaged but doesn''t impress me. I''m the worst person to make a decision, i go back and forth and i''m always second guessing myself. IT took me about 3 months to come up with the fact of what i wanted, what type of setting, etc, etc etc. And now i feel like i''m back to square one. Second guessing everything

What do you think I should do? I''m REALLY good with my jewelry. I usually take off my rings as soon as i get home. Don''t sleep/clean/exercise/cook or anything with my rings on, so maybe an aqua will be fine for me. I dunno! i need enlightenment!

My cousin has an aqua e-ring as says if she could choose again, she wouldn't have one as she has chipped it rather a lot and had it repolished twice already in 6 years.

I would hold out for a sapphire. If it makes you feel any better, I was engaged 24/12/06 and first saw my e-ring at the end of June 07!

What exactly are you looking for in terms of colour, size, budget etc

I think you should step away from the computer and try to figure out what YOU want. An aqua will be fine for daily wear for awhile, but know that it isn't the best choice for daily wear long term. Are you going to be ok with potentially replacing your ring in a number of years? If so, and you want an aqua, go for it! Otherwise I think you should be patient and wait to get what you really want even if it takes longer than you'd like.

I will tell you that the steps are visible on my asscher, but any darker and I don't think they would be. So keep that in mind...

Hi, wait for the sapphire. The aquamarine won''t hold up when time passes. Since you already have something to represent your engagement, just wait for a lighter sapphire to turn up. That''s the thing with coloured stone, it can be a while before you find a stone in the colour, shape, cut that you want..

I completely agree with this statement - i wouldn''t mind having an aquamarine, as long as i knew i''d have to have the stone replaced here and there over time. But if that''s not the case, then I would definitely wait for the sapphire you want. The one thing i would absolutely NOT do is order a darker blue sapphire, knowing that isn''t what you want, just for time''s sake.

It''s your ring, and it seems that you already have one ring you aren''t completely crazy about. You seemed so excited for your plan for the lighter sapphire, so even if it takes some time, i think it would be worth the wait

I would wait if I were you. OR I would go with your original idea for an aqua and be careful with it, have it set low, etc. You would be lucky that it wouldnt be your original ering for sentimental reasons. If it were I would say definitely not, but since it isn't and you are really careful I would just take a few days and think it over. There is weight in the fact that it was your original gem love. That color is stunning. I liked your setting choices and either will look fabulous. Good luck!

ETA: here is a crazy idea...bear with me. Didnt Chrono get something recut by Jeff into an Asscher? Could you buy a stone elsewhere with a color you like and have him recut it? Chrono, please chime in, not sure what all you would need for this in terms of shape/size...

If it''s for an e-ring, I''d hold out for a light blue sapphire. If it''s just for fun, I''d choose a light blue tourmaline since those are plentiful.

I''d hold out and tell Jeff to please keep looking. This is a special ring and I would rather wait for a year to get the perfect thing than compromise... oh, and I wouldn''t get aqua for an e-ring, too possible to damage...

I spoke to Jeff and he said that he couldn''t give me a time frame. I said that i''d wait a month, and if after that he still doesn''t have that then i''ll make a decision if I''d do an aqua or not.

Thanks for the help.

The color of the aqua is lovely. The lighter sapphires are pretty too. A sapphire will take more daily wear and tear but will you always look at your ring and wonder how the ring would look with the aqua? I hate to see you settle for something instead of getting what you wanted.

Either way, whatever you choose will be wonderful - aquas and light sapphires are both lovely choices (and two of my favorites as well).

FYI, if you like the color of that aqua, but want a harder stone, i have actually seen some sapphires that really resemble that aqua-y color. I''ll attach the picture, but here are some links for you to look at. maybe you could find that color in a sapphire, which would be more durable for you over time, but still give you that color you love....just a thought

Maybe it''s just the reflection, but the 1st sapphire looks like it has some color zoning issues (dark on the edges, light in the center).

I haven''t posted any pics of my original e-ring. I don''t even know the specs.
I''ll try to post pictures of it later on today

Kismet,

I emailed Jeff to see if he can re-cut it, I don''t think the steps are defined enough. Hopefully he can.

Hi there S!

I liked the color of the sapphires i posted, but i agree the cuts were off - i thought it was good to see that they can come in that color though, for the hardness factor.

Maybe you could tell jeff to look for both colors in sapphire (light blue and aqua) and one might come up sooner than the other???

I would love to see pics of the original ering when you have time - cheers!

Hello, having many sapphires myself, and having made sacrifices, my advice would be to go with your first heart''s desire and wait till the right shade of blue is found. I''ve got many blue sapphires that I have been disappointed with. Most are to dark and don''t get that brillance and sparkle that makes a sapphire special. A good color sapphire that isn''t to dark is mesmerizing to me, watching the light dance around in them. But, I''m partial to sapphires myself.

Hope you get the color you are looking for. If it is for your E-ring, I would wait on the sapphire. You want something durable you can wear everyday and sapphire is 9 on the MOH''s scale. They can take alot of abuse. I have acquas, but only wear them on special occasions, not for everyday wear. I also prefer the oval cut on sapphires myself. I think the brillance and sparkle are really displayed in an oval cut on a sapphire.

Hope this helps some. I''m a sapphire lover, so what can I say. Don''t take the dark one, you will regret it. I''ve got a couple I''d like to throw out the window. They are so dark that they don''t even really sparkle as a sapphire should. When you get the right color, it will be worth the wait. I waisted alot of money over the years and wish I had waited for the perfect one I now have.

Good Luck. Your first instinct, is always the best.

I bought my wife an Aqua 17 years ago and it''s not showing any wear, but she only wears it when she''s not wearing any of several other right hand rings. She also takes off her rings when doing manual labor. Aquas are relatively tough as they are beryl and you shouldn''t have a problem with wear unless you really abuse them.
