I have always liked emerald cut but never thoguth of it as "my type". Just figured RB was the one for me.

But now I''m wondering....maybe I want an EC.

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE your setting with the RB''s! So elegant and beautiful!

Thank you!!

I second this request!

Kittybean your ring is gorgeous! I''d love to see more about it.

In her SMTR thread, she mentioned that her ER has a 2.1 ct E VS1 emerald cut center stone with four 15-point RB side stones (two on either side), and that it''s set in a 3mm-wide (approx.) platinum band, and is currently a size 3.25.

More pics would be super!

Thanks!

I actually found that today, too!

I''m so flattered you like my ring. I don''t know any more specific stats at the moment, but I will try to get the appraisal from my fiance soon. My ring sadly has to go back to Blue Nile tomorrow to be sized

. We''ll get the new appraisal after that, and I will take some new pictures with it. I''m going to feel so sad and naked without it for a week!

For more detail on the setting, check out Blue Nile and their 4-Stone Engagement Ring settings. I looked and my band is actually 3.5 mm wide. They come in a few different sizes/carat weights.

Kittybean: When you described the setting your FI chose and told us that you were not happy about it (a five stone, center EC with two RB on each side) I agreed with you and thought ICK! But after seeing the pictures you posted I was stunned! The ring is GORGEOUS, and to think your FI picked it out himself! Such a classic looking ring!

Kittybean - do you LOVE you ring now? I know I do....

YES I''M SO SURE it will be sad to have to send it back!

I knew it would help to have others comment on your ring. It is tdf!!!! I couldn''t part with it.

WOW! Your FI bought that gorgeous EC on BlueNile? That''s amazing I''ve always heard you have to see the stone to be able to pick a good one. I''d love to hear more about how he did that so I can help my SO when he''s ready to find a kicken stone.

Yes, he bought the gorgeous stone on Blue Nile! I''m not sure exactly how he did it, but I know he did a lot of consulting with a sales associate there who was evidently very helpful. I will ask him tonight when I see him if he can offer any additional guidance. He and I both have a number of friends that have bought diamonds/rings from Blue Nile and everyone has been extremely satisfied. I definitely don''t want to sound like an advertisement for them, but they do offer very good quality stones, NO SALES TAX (hooray!), and a 30-day return policy.

You are completely right. The positive comments helped me to see how objectively lovely it is. I am now leaning toward having a local jeweler resize it so I don''t have to part with it for so long. EmeraldLover, I absolutely cannot wait to see your ring. I think the halo + that gorgeous stone will be so perfect!

As promised, more ring pics are here! I took these today. I didn''t send the ring back for sizing yet; I''m now looking into having the jeweler who did my roommate''s ring size it locally. I think it will be much faster, and the less time spent without my ring, the better!

KCCutie, I talked with my fiance last night, and he said that he first went around to jewelers locally and figured out what he wanted in person. He then compared prices from B&M store with prices online for a similar quality. He said the SA at Tiffany''s was really suspicious of how much he knew about diamonds--I guess their average consumer isn''t even familiar with the 4 C''s, and even less familiar with cut proportions. He told me the SA immediately asked if he was looking to buy something online and informed him that Tiffany''s would not work with those stones. A number of SAs at various stores also tried to talk him out of an EC (perish the thought!). They told him that ECs were "old lady stones" and that I would probably much prefer a nice RB. I''m so glad he knew better and didn''t listen to a word they said!

I think you can find a great stone for a good value at Blue Nile, especially if you know the proportion, cut quality, color, and clarity that you want. It also might be a plus if you''re looking for a higher-grade diamond; I think the lower color grades, for example, vary more widely. This is just a personal opinion after seeing a lot of stones. When I''ve looked at them, some H-J''s looked lovely to me, and some looked much too yellowish, whereas I see almost zero difference between a D and an F. As another example, SI-grade stones can look totally eye-clean or have some visible inclusions, depending on where the inclusion is. My fiance and I are in no way experts, so I''m saying this all based on personal experience and my PS diamond education.

In sum, my advice is to check out a lot of diamonds in person at first to see what you like, then to call Blue Nile with something specific in mind.

Kittybean-

Thanks for the advice and the pictures! *drool*

Do you know if your EC is what they call their Signature Ideal cut...I''m guessing it is. I''m so glad to hear that the SAs at BlueNile are so helpful I''ve always read that they are "just a drop shipper" and I''m glad to see that your FI was able to call them and get exactly what he wanted. Very good to know b/c they seem to have quite a few ECs.

KB I had to look for this post just so that I could tell you how much I love your ring....AGAIN!

Every time I see your avatar I get all giddy inside just like when I see New England Lady''s ring.
