I''m in the beginning stages of trying to find a wedding site for 120-150 guests in Los Angeles or Orange County. I''d really like a site where I can have both the ceremony and reception and that has a modern look. Does anyone have any suggestions? Did any of you have a great experience with your wedding site?

So far, I really like the look of the Luxe hotel on Sunset. My parents want me to look at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel (It was pretty newly renovated). I''m willing to consider Palm Springs (I like the Parker Palm Springs) or even Santa Barbara, or anywhere really within a short drive from Los Angeles.

I''d appreciate any help or ideas! Thanks!

If you dont mind palm springs the Parker is amazing and very flexible. I was looking for more of an almost spanish theme and ended up in westlake village but i looked at alot of places. The ebell club in los angeles can be done quite modernly. My sister in law went to a premiere show there and the pics were lovely. What about the skirball, i am sure there is a way to dress that up very modern like, considering the venue.

Isnt there a ritz or something in Pasadena that is nice.

SB is beautiful. there is one place...http://www.andaluciasb.com/elcielo.htm I dont know if I would call that modern.

I got rid of all my bookmarks when i decided on a place but i will look through my history there was this really nice hotel with a beautiful infinity pool. I think it was in malibu area.

Some of the mansions you can rent have a v. modern feel as well.

SOrry I cant be more help, ill have to do some digging.

Gwyn,

Thanks for the reply. The hotel you mentioned in SB is beautiful, but the only space big enough for the reception is the roof, and they don''t allow amplified music on the roof. The Parker does seem like it might be the best bet. We''re going to try to meet with them the week after Thanksgiving. We''re kind of limited to having the wedding either at a hotel or a venue with activites and hotels very close by, as at least 1/2 of the guests (75 people) are going to be out of towners. If you have any other ideas, let me know!

I adore the Montage in Laguna but it''s not modern, it''s Craftsman style.

I love the Marvimon in downtown Los Angeles:

http://www.marvimon.com/

It''s extremely modern, with long banquet tables, and it accommodates up to 150 for a seated dinner. I think you can also do the ceremony either indoors or outdoors in the garden.

I love the look of the Viceroy, but they only have room for a 40 person sit down dinner with dancing! The shade hotel asks you to buy all rooms if you''re going to have amplified music?! I''m having so many issues with venues and noise restrictions! I''m going to begin looking at venues soon, I''ll keep you all posted as to what I decide!

Check out some of the Country Clubs in the Palm Springs area also. There''s tons of them, and I know at least 1 in Plam Springs is modern styled, I think it''s called Escena. We had our wedding at Monterey Country Club near Palm Springs 6 years ago, it was beautiful!

I got married at the Skirball Center (right off of the 405 where it meets the 101). The reception room is very beautiful and modern (gorgeous ceilings) and I loved the ceremony site. It is a Jewish cultural center, but by all means NOT all the weddings held there are Jewish! (I know they do proms, etc also).

I''m attaching a small photo of the ceiling of the ballroom. If you''re interested, here are a few of my non prof pictures from my wedding (I''m a little biased, can you tell??)... I''ve GOT to get around to posting the prof pictures one of these days...

Anyway, good luck!!

Oh, just thought of something else...We had our guests stay at the Luxe hotel on Sunset, that''s where the bridal party got ready, where we spent the night after the wedding, as well as where we had our post-wedding brunch. It is beautiful...but the service was AWFUL!!!
My bridal party got ready in my parents'' room... the hotel didn''t even service the room (ie clean up and clear the sandwiches and room service that we had ordered during the day)...My parents got back after the wedding to a DIRTY room (yuck).
My husband and his boys got ready in what was supposed to be our room, although the hotel decided to switch our room to a nicer one for our wedding night. When we got back after the wedding, they had NO room ready for us, and we spent 45 minutes waiting in the lobby (we were TIRED and really anticipating our wedding night!!!!)...
AND...in the room switch, they somehow lost my husband''s honeymoon suitcase. We spent the entire brunch searching for it. They started looking in EVERY room of the hotel before someone found it in my mom''s car. SOMEHOW the valet took it in and then put it back!!!

ANyway, if they couldn''t even get these small details right, I would be very worried about having them do the whole wedding!!

Best of luck...let me know if you have any questions! :)

I just went to a wedding at the Andalucia in SB and while the roof is lovely, it is definitely not big enough for a reception of that size.

I just priced out a ton of venues for our company holiday party in the LA area, and there were a few that were really cool. I''d definitely think about looking at museums. A few people have mentioned the Skirball (if you''re having kids, you might investigate the possibility of them keeping their new Noah''s Ark play area open during your wedding) and there are some other museums around town that are awesome as well. The California Science Center, LACMA, the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Zoo and MOCA are all really cool spaces that rent out their facilities.

Other things you might want to look at are theatres, evening cruises out of Long Beach, or sound stages/warehouses. We even looked at having it in the Library in the evening. In any case, if you''re open to looking at some more unusual spaces, you can find some really cool places. Good luck!
