i''m curious about your trip to turkey. we are going to istanbul only (from santorini). we''d have loved to go to ephesus too, but it was such a challenge trying to find a route from santornin to that region without taking too many flights or long ferries.

may i ask how you''re getting to izmir? not sure where you are based. also which airlines do you use and what is your experience with them? thanks..

I live in NYC and I generally prefer Turkish Airlines just because I love their food and they also serve hazelnuts instead of pretzels. American Airlines operate with Turkish Airlines, and Delta has also non-stop flights to Istanbul. I fly to Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST) and then get transferred to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB). I just checked their route from Greece, but only from Athens to Istanbul is available.

Have you planned your itenerary in Turkey? If Izmir (Ephesus) will be your departure point, you can always fly back to USA from there.

Well, getting back to the main problem, are you sure there isn''t any direct boat ride from Santorini to Kusadasi or Bodrum? Geographically, Bodrum (Turkish Santorini) is the closest location. I think there should be boat rides back and forth. But we need to find out first of course. But if you are definitely planning on spending a few days in Istanbul first, then fly to Istanbul and then you can fly back to Izmir (45 minutes flight). Oh, there are definitely daily boat rides from Greek SAMOS island to Kusadasi. I think it takes about 2 hours.

How long will you stay?
