I''m anxious to get some of the little things checked off of my to do list. One of the things I need to do is get dried lavender and organza bags for the lavender toss. How far in advance can I do that without the lavender loosing its smell? I still have 5 months until my wedding. Thanks!

I''ve had some in my basement for 6 months now and it is still pretty strong! As long as you keep it in plastic bags, you will probably be ok. Honestly, when I had my lavender delivered it smelled SO strong it made me sneeze! I would have welcomed a little fading. We filled the bags on my bachelorette weekend and it went really quickly. Just a tip... if you can get those little tiny dixie cups, like the kind people use in their bathroom, that''s just the right size scoop for a full small organza bag. And it was the easiest way to prevent spills. have fun!!!

I wish I could send you my extra lavender. I have no idea what to do with it all!

Hey Sum, thank you for the info!! I wish I could have bought your extra lavender too so it didn''t go to waste. How much do you think I should buy? I was thinking about 2 pounds. I need to fill between 125-150 bags. Do you think that''s too much? Also, did your guests know what to do with it or did you have to provide instructions? If so, how did you go about telling them what to do with it. I was thinking maybe I could include it as part of the program- is that tacky?

The "how much" question is one I didn''t get right! I ordered WAY too much, but I think it''s because of the ebay auction... it was such a good deal! ha!

Anyway, I did a thread on this when I was trying to decide and we came up with 1 lb. for 50 bags, so I''d go with 3 lbs. just to be sure. Here''s my thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/lavender-toss-anyone.66859/

Of course, the mistake I made is assuming everyone would still be there when we left, so we had about 350 bags made up. But we didn''t want to leave, so the bulk of the crowd was gone before we left. Some people took sachets with them as favors, but my mom still has a tub full of them. As for how to let people know, the bridesmaids can help with that if you have them. Are you thinking of doing the toss after the ceremony, like Ephemery did, or after the reception, like I did? whichever you choose, remember it will get every where! including down your bra!

Oh, and my DH got pelted with full bags by his friends. It was hilarious!

We''re going to have them throw it as we walk up the aisle. Our ceremony and reception are at the same place, which is an inn that we''re staying at the night of our wedding. So that''s really the only opportunity to do a toss, and I really want to do one hehe. I haven''t decided if I want to put out a bag and program on each seat or set up a table with the programs and the bags for guests to take as they enter. I can definitely have the bridesmaids circulate the word that the lavender is for a toss. Would it also be appropriate in the program to have it say something like "Recessional & Lavender Toss." Ok, so three pounds it is.

If you''re going to do it as you walk up the aisle, definitely put it in the program! Also, if you leave it on the seats, that will help people understand, and the family in the front should be clued in as they''ll lead the toss and people will be watching them for what to do.

YAY, I''m so glad you''re doing lavender!!! It smells so good!

Sum,
You should try posting your stuff for sale on the knot or craigslist. I bet people would be interested.

HH - I totally didn''t think of that! My DH sells everything he can get his hands on and somehow it still didn''t click! Thanks. I''ll list it tonight!

Hi Sap483 - we also had a lavendar toss at our wedding. We had 140 guests and I ordered 30 bags. We placed one bag on each of the aisle seats and also gave a bag to the wedding party and our parents. Our wedding planner told us that if you gave everyone a bag, the guests sitting in the middle and on the ends (not aisle seats) would be hitting each other with the lavendar, not us. We didn''t want it to be mass chaos w/ the lavendar.

I ordered the Lavender Wedding Favor Kit for tossing at the Flower Depot Store - which came with organza bags (we chose the purple bags because my wedding colors were eggplant, ivory and gold). I posted a pic below. We didn''t mention it in our programs because not everyone got a bag so, we tied liittle tags on the bags with labels that read:

Please shower the newlyweds with lavender as they make their way up the aisle after the ceremony.

The lavendar smells amazing and we also have leftovers which still smell very fragrant!

Hmm, you make an excellent point. Guests sitting in the middle may not appreciate having lavender tossed on them. What if we leave some room between the rows of chairs, do you think guests could move closer to the aisle for the lavender toss, or would that also be too chaotic?

Well, unless your sure that guests will get a clear shot of you, I probably wouldn''t have everyone do it. Even some of our guests who sat in the aisle didn''t do it because it all happened so quickly that we had already passed by the time we walked by them. I would think a lot of people who can''t get a good shot to throw it at you may not throw it all.

i went to a wedding that did the toss after the ceremony and everyone sort of "moved to the middle" for the toss. The rows weren''t extremely long, so that helped. It wouldn''t have worked at a really big wedding.
