this time i tried and succeded in not panicing
i knew i would not have thrown in out
but it was nagging away in the back fo my mind

i have been a bad girl
i ordered more tiny larimar beads
what on earth for ???????

i think im going to use them as spaces in a strand of white potato pearls that were just sitting here .....;.
because when tiny bag arrived yesterday (i have another lot on the way :lol-2: ) i tossed the little bag onto the chair where i had the pearls- they had been rejected from the daisy pearl strand (for not being white white enough)
and they just looked so good together

Someone is telling you that they belong together :P2

i think i just brought chalcedony :(2

il_794xN.4374465151_7fqm.jpg

i just wanted some cheap pretty spacer beads
but i dont like imposters

sigh
images

they are a bit ugly
but they do seem to be real DR Larimar
but ugly
cant put my finger on why ?
maybe i should not have got fascated
they just look dull

so i strung them up with my ugly potato pearls
very dissapointing and still ugly (both)
oh well
i'll put them away for a couple of weeks and see what they look like then
and maybe have to put it down to experience

maybe i just keep it to remind myself one day i want a beautiful high quality pearl and larimar necklace

Well, I'm sure you are thoroughly disappointed, but the larimar(or chalcedony) look pretty in the picture you posted. Do they look nothing like that in real life? Maybe they just need to be paired with a simple silver spacing bead instead.

I am sorry for you, but at that price I am astonished it is not plastic…that type of piece, with real Larimar, would cost close to or over 1k USD. Not sure what you were expecting?

I saw this post and reminded me I have about 4 loose larimar somewhere in my loose gems, now I have to go find them, lol.

actaully i have some larima coloured plastic earings from lasy year that were my lesson in that regard (too embarresed to post )
it's ok, its all learning

they are very small larimar beads, i might make them into a wee stretch bracelet, i beleave the mine is recsently closed so i dont want to waste it, the particular etsy vendor does do a very nice minimal station necklace that i was so happy with i bright a 2nd one (ok i think i lost the first one) its just the loose beads arnt as nice as the other ones i brought (from someone else)

but it isnt rocket science and it isnt costing thusands (or even hundrads) its just a bit of fun so no harm done
its all practice for when i buy 'proper' loose gemstones one day - im really hopeleass at guaging sizes

excuse my spelling, it seems much worse than usual this morning

meanwhike its my day off today
cold, riany and dismal so going to restring them onto a smaller size pearl
everyone deserves a 2nd chance

oh no :lol-2:
i am a realist (but an optimist)

that's not a finished piece of jewlery
i brought one of those strands of tiny little 4mm loose beads
and its been magnified to show the larima up close
the colour is actually pretty close on some of them

but yes, it would look pretty cool as a finished piece, but one would want better quality larima

They’re pretty @Daisys and Diamonds whether they’re Larimar or not. I’m sure you can make something lovely out of them.

so just back from the new jewler who does much better restringing/knotting
took my Nicky necklace in to swap out the very fine silver chain with the tiny larimar beads
he thinks the first lot i brought might be dyed quartz (dang)
i got these July last year (cant rush these projects) :lol-2:

so im going to use the wee ones that came last week -they do at least look like the real stuff (I do have some pieces to compair)

while waiting for the tiny larmiar beads to arrive i took my green larimar in to be knotted up today
its like 8mm with smallish fascated silver beads inbetween

Just found my missing petete larima necklace
a week after my new one arriving
two days after breaking the catch on the new one (in mot good with delicate)

i always had it in the back of my mind to have it made longer
not my neck
the larima does have a bit more colour than this picture
mine are both in silver

just read this via google
Larimar also comes in green and can have red spots, brown strikes, etc., due to the presence of other minerals or oxidation. The more intense the blue colour and the contrast in the stone, the higher and rarer is the quality. The blue colour is photosensitive and fades with time if exposed to too much light and heat.

anyone have experience of this ?

anyway got my new green larimar necklace from the jewler today
im so happy with it i wore it home
it is inspired my a necklace i saw a customer wearing with silver spacer beads
i beleave the laptop has a camera (i completly forgot) so will post a pix over the weekend

took all my tiny larimar?/ larima coloured quartz into the jewler today to look at in under descent conditions
i think its all quartz
so i'll be making larima coloured quartz xmas decorations this year

Make them into bracelets, quartz can take some beating 8-)

Oooh, I have to tell you all about my Larimar Christmas Miracle!

Gather around... haha

At around the second half of last year, I started seeing fake Larimar everywhere. So much so, that I started craving a real piece of Larimar for myself.

I went to a few jeweler stores, but the stones I was been told were Larimar were either something else (imposters include common blue opal and hemimorphite), or way too expensive. I knew Larimar had gotten more expensive with the years, but none of the tiny stones I was being shown were speaking to me.

And then... the exact opposite thing happened to me! :D

I found out one of my favorite jewelry stores was closing down (they're going online only), so I paid them a visit. In a corner behind the counter, with some old-stock things they had yet to put on display, a bright blue stone caught my eye. Completely by chance. I asked to see it. The clerk handed it to me and told me it was turquoise. Even the label on it said it was turquoise.

It was not. It was Larimar! There was a time when Larimar was cheaper and it was used as a substitute for turquoise.

I knew I'd found my stone :)

I'm so happy with it! Larimar is so odd in that sometimes the white sections will show chatoyancy, and sometimes the blue sections will have transparency. It will always come with surprises like that.

Here's my beautiful Larimar set, in sterling silver with mother of pearl and matching earrings:
