Oooh, I have to tell you all about my Larimar Christmas Miracle!

At around the second half of last year, I started seeing fake Larimar everywhere. So much so, that I started craving a real piece of Larimar for myself.

I went to a few jeweler stores, but the stones I was been told were Larimar were either something else (imposters include common blue opal and hemimorphite), or way too expensive. I knew Larimar had gotten more expensive with the years, but none of the tiny stones I was being shown were speaking to me.

And then... the exact opposite thing happened to me!

I found out one of my favorite jewelry stores was closing down (they're going online only), so I paid them a visit. In a corner behind the counter, with some old-stock things they had yet to put on display, a bright blue stone caught my eye. Completely by chance. I asked to see it. The clerk handed it to me and told me it was turquoise. Even the label on it said it was turquoise.

It was not. It was Larimar! There was a time when Larimar was cheaper and it was used as a substitute for turquoise.

I knew I'd found my stone

I'm so happy with it! Larimar is so odd in that sometimes the white sections will show chatoyancy, and sometimes the blue sections will have transparency. It will always come with surprises like that.

im looking for 4 or 6 nice biggish beads to go onto some largish silver wire , im repurposing dad's black onyx cufflinks into a necklace, i only need a few my budget can stretch to nice ones

then on a whim i brought some cheap chip beads for the 'chain' on my nicky necklace -hopefully not quartz this time
wish me luck
otherwise i will have more xmas decorations to make !
i will pick out the smallest and bluest ones

not quite as good as the vendor picture but pretty nice, a bit pailer and i got two stands so i can pick out the nicer ones without the brown
the bits are bit bigger than i had wanted but im still happy

hmmm the bits are a bit all over the place, (they were cheap)
ill string it up and see how it looks but it might just become a stretch bracelet / xmas decoration

How many do you need for your project? Maybe when you pick out the worst of them, the rest will look nice enough. I don't think a few bits of natural cavities/edges will ruin the look.

and a few dark bits make them look real
