Let's talk about your avatar pics...

Speaking of cat avatars…. @Gypsy had a great one too. She has not posted in a long time. Did she change names. It seems like she maybe moved to trade…but I could be wrong.

She did go trade but then she got out of trade and came back to Ps for a little while but disappeared again.

Mine was my dogs for a long time, but then I changed it to my 1,89ct American cut and it stayed that way for a decade. Now it’s a picture of my five stone OEC suite. I just thought it was time for a change even though I’m sure it confused people lol

I just changed mine to my cat. Prior to that it was the generic "B" which was all great until other "B"s started showing up in threads I was reading and it was confusing to me.

So this is my cat, Oliver, and we are ready to listen. And judge. :)

@Bonfire
Your avatar is striking, haunting even.
It has me curious.

Is it a painting, a sculpture, a real person in heavy makeup, a person Photoshopped, or something else?
Is (s)he a historically significant person, perhaps a Hollywood creation?
Why did you select it, and who created that image?

Gotta link about it?

TIA.

Hi @kenny isn’t she fabulous! I walked by one of the many art gallery’s while visiting Asheville NC last Spring and there she was, in the window. Unfortunately the gallery was closed so I couldn’t learn more about this stunning work.
I had to crop off part of her headdress to fit in the avatar space, here she is in her full glory. I love her expression, her eyes, ultimate resting bit** face.

Wow!
Thanks.
You have a good eye!

One of the many things that keeps me looking at it, is the eyes.
While I expect this was the intention of the artist, the eyes are not looking at the same point.
For me this contributes very effectively to the intended ambiguity of the subject, and the disquieting feeling of the piece.

BTW, I can't tell what you wrote at the end of your post.
On my screen it reads, "ultimate resting bit** face."

I'm trying to change mine every once in awhile. Right now, it's a little family I hope to see on my trip. As I've said, I'm torn between letting them eat me and bringing home an elephant. :oops2:

The full picture is even more fabulous @Bonfire. The artist captured the resting b#$&h face down to perfection.

@ShinyPink, You have lots of funs things planned this year. What a wonderful escape from our current reality.

Gosh.
Now I'm really curious what that that word is, and how it relates to the sculpture.
On my screen this time it reads, "b#$&h".

Bit**/Bitch. RBF
Lack of expression. Perhaps a bit contemptuous

Bit**/Bitch

Thanks.
I thought that must be it.

But why do you call it that?
Is that the name of the piece, or is that word a reaction to the facial expression?

That’s what’s so wonderful about art (in all mediums) is how it makes us feel. What draws us in.
No, RBF is not the title of this piece.

SO COOL!

Thanks Bonfire, and Karl.

Oh, and thanks for expanding my vocabulary.

RBF.png

Wayne Goss, youtube make up artist, introduced me to that term.

If you didn't know who this was, and had never seen the face, could this qualify as a RBF?

Absolutely! The queen of RBF :lol-2:

Well, that settles it.
Apparently I LOVE RBF actresses.

One of my favorite films ...

One of my all time favorite movies! I still feel bad about the bird.

I love old black and white movies. Better Davis and Joan Crawford were two of the greats. Bette Davis should have trademarked the resting bitch face.

They were both true movie stars.
Everytime I watch a Joan Crawford movie, I am in awe of her talent. Except maybe "Trog"...

I’d forgotten all about the bird.

I’d forgotten all about the bird.

Yeah, that was well before the era of "No animals were harmed in the making of this product or film".
It is possible, though very unlikely, the dead bird was a prop that they made.
One can hope.

Old films and TV can be hard for some folks to watch if they adhere uncompromisingly to today's sensibilities.
Today that may be called cancelling.

I recognize the shortcomings of our culture's past.
But still, I view and enjoy old films, a lot!
I guess I do what police, ambulance EMTs, firefighters and ER staff are trained to do, compartmentalize.

Things sure do change over time.
Some get better, some worse.
