My mom had this emerald and recently gave it to me. One doesn’t need to have much knowledge about colored stones to know this is not a high quality stone (thus the reason she gave it to me.) It’s a Colombian emerald. My dad got it in the late 80s or early 90s when he was getting much nicer and prettier emeralds. We aren’t sure why he got this one as well.

Would you set such a stone? Do you have pictures of an emerald this light set in a ring/pendant you can share? Links to similar emeralds if you come across any would be good. I’m curious as to the rough value of it.

Thanks for looking!

I would!

Why not set it? What I do when I am about to set a stone is I google every phrase I can think of related to it and then click on images and take screen shots of the ones I like.

I think I would like to set it. I guess I wouldn’t want people to :eek2: at it. ;)2

Why not? It still looks glowy and pretty. I’d put it in a pendant. You know, I have a commercial grade ruby in a ring that was a gift from my mom. I wear it with my ruby earrings of much finer quality that my husband gave to me. It’s still a pretty ring. I think your emerald will make a pretty piece of jewelry. I don’t know if you like pink and green together, but setting it with a morganite is an idea.

I can't help with the value but I would definitely set it. It's light but still beautiful. I actually prefer slightly lighter emeralds.

I think it would be pretty in a three stone setting (though you can never go wrong with a halo, IMO).

I would set it only if you found it attractive, or for sentimental value and you felt setting it would be appropriate in that case. That goes for any stone though. I say this because I wasted a lot of money on setting stones I really didn't like, and I never wore them. However, if you love the stone, regardless of what you perceive the quality to be, set it.

Very true and I was curious how much you wanted to spend to set it. You could do a simple white gold setting from stuller for a few hundred or go custom with a halo for $2700++++

It is a pretty stone. If you like the color and cut and will wear it go ahead and set it.

I know if I set it, I’d go with a less pricey setting. However, I'm thinking that no matter what, I'm going to want a beautifully toned, glorious emerald one day. So.... I think it might sit in its little wrapper. Maybe one day it will be something, but for now I think it will wait.

Though it would be pretty in the spring months....

Hmmmm.... waffling to and fro on this. A spring ring with side diamonds like pictured above would be pretty......

I think it is pretty. If it is not your dream stone, then set it in a pendant. It would be pretty with a bezel yellow gold.

Love affair diamonds sells stuller settings and I think she would set your stone.... an idea anyway...

Not Emerald-green, but such a beautiful 'mint' colour ! I rather like all pastel coloured stones, including Green Beryls, among which these light 'mint' emerals certainly stand out.

I definitely would but I'm such a little green tart you just dangle a green stone at me and I'll drool!

That's the reason? :nono:

:geek2:

Yes, I would set it. Emeralds have such a showy color, in general, that even the lesser ones can pop up quite a bit.
