I have a little crush on this ring... A 1.18 fancy yellow oval diamond, set with rubies and RBs. I normally don''t care that much for yellow stones, but the rich rubies seem to make it so regal-looking.

I just wish there were images of it other angles...

Fancy yellow??? Or is just a colorless Oval with a yellow trim???

Or just a bad picture?

It''s defineitley not a greatpicture, but here is the description:

1 Oval Cut diamond 1.18cts Natural Fancy Yellow++/SI1
Set in a platinum mounting with rubies and 28 round brilliants ~0.30cts tw.

I have no idea what "++" means... ?

Graded by____?

Okay... by no certifying body worth mentioning by name on their site. Schlomo, maybe.

Do you think it''s just low color diamond? I desaturated the rubies in photoshop (not the best method for faking diamonds, I sure) and the oval still looks pretty yellow.

Do you suspect it''s just a dark dimaond?

oops - *can''t add image when you edit*

Think?

Dont you notice the yellow is a back reflection of the "yellow gold prongs" on the back of the Diamond?

I didn't, no... didn't know to look, either.

I absolutely see it now. I'm still a very rough rock.

I'll learn!

Thanks for the insight - I never woulda thunk to think ...

Ninama, don''t feel bad! Just for comparison sake, my avatar is of a GIA graded Fancy Light Yellow. My color is a definite yellow that runs through the entire diamond not just from the prongs and it is fancy light yellow.

I don't feel bad, Catmom - honest. I'm pretty teachable. As soon as DG pointed out the reflections, it was as obvious as a diamond in a goat's a$$. Bumping up the size of the image really shows it...

I'm still kind of liking the yellow and rubies concept, though! Your ring is amazing....

The same site lists this ring for sale (I''ve posted it before). Does it look ''blotchy'', too?:

TIFFANY & CO. INTENSE YELLOW

A beautiful Natural Fancy Intense Yellow / VS1 Emerald Cut diamond weighing 0.95cts. This is an extremely rare, saturated pure yellow color not often found amongst "regular" intense yellows. Through family research, we have found Tiffany & Co. stock and registry #31/2382. We have recently obtained a G.I.A. Report on this gem. The 18K yellow gold solitaire mounting is signed "Tiffany & Co.".

Is it sold via T&Co? (or there is quite a good chance its a remounted T&Co setting)
Although its only an image..., I must admit I am not impressed (at all)..., I would not touch it as an "intense" or even as a basic "Fancy"!!!
(Unless it looks darker and most importantly much more evenly saturated!!!)

Its true..., a step-cut Fancy Intense is RARE!!! Either the material is a saturated yellow or its not, cutters tricks dont work here (sometimes they manage to trick a just bit with the pavilion corners

), but it does not look like in this case!

In short..., not impressed!

Not impressed here either. There seem to be a banding across the middle of the stone. The yellow colour should be even throughout the diamond.

Thanks DG...

I see it (now) as an essentially colorless stone with gold prongs throwing some yellow here and there.... just like the oval.

I have this image in my head of a night club hypnotist saying "When you read yellow you will see see yellow!" Yelllooowww.....yelllooowww.....yelllooowww....*snap*.
