My makeup lady asked me to bring my own lipstick to better match the color of my dress (peach ivory). Any recommendations on which brand of lipstick lasts the longest and won''t dry out as fast?

Hi CareBear...

For lipstick, there is such a wide choice...I would be sure to apply a lip primer or even some foundation on your lips before applying any lip color. Make sure your lips are dry. Apply lip primer or facial foundation(apply with a brush for better coverage) and then take a little translucent powder and apply over that. THEN apply a lip color from one of the many higher end cosmetic companies. Apply the lip color with a lip brush for better coverage and application. Match a lip liner to your lip, going a half a hue deeper. I like the higher end cosmetic companies better for special occasions because they last longer overall. It is up to you which line you can afford and prefer. Smashbox, Lancome, Tinte, Estee Lauder or Mac all make excellent ones. Also, I like the look of a touch of gloss just in the center of the lip for detail. It photographs nice like that, too. I used to be a skin care consultant so I found out some of this from doing that.

Experiment a little and have fun...Also, go in the morning hours before noon and ask the girls at the counters to give you some ideas. Lip stains work nicely as well...Help something I mentioned works for you...

Wow DB, that is great advice! I''m coming to you next time I have makeup/lipstick questions

Deanna gives good advice! My technique is to apply a little foundation to lips then just a touch of powder. I apply lip liner over lips, lipstick with a brush, blot, touch of powder, reapply lipstick and blot again with CHEAP Kleenex that don't leave fuzz. This should last all day! Another pretty touch is to apply a little shimmer powder to your cupid's bow, this makes lips look pouty too

I follow a similar routine to Lorelei, and my liptstick lasts all day - foundation first, lip liner (outline lips and color in lightly the entire lip), lipstick, and then gloss optional.

DL I find too that by colouring the whole lip lightly with liner really helps the lipstick grip and last, maybe because it gives the oilier lipstick a matt coloured base to help it stick. Spice by Mac is a good neutral one or Baby Buff by Clinique goes with most lipsticks I find, plus a basic red lipliner and you are set. Another tip to help avoid lipstick marks on cups and glasses is to discreetly lick the glass where you are going to drink, also to avoid the dreaded lipstick on teeth, after applying, push your forefinger between the lips and this removes any " goop" which is on the inside of lips. Nothing worse than smiling with lipstick all over your gnashers

I personally dont like lipstick at all, I''m much more of a tinted gloss girl. I LOVE the lipglass collection by MAC and I currently use Purr, although they have some with more tint that are beautiful as well. It lasts for hours, although the occasional reapplication will be needed, but it feels so good on, it''s really nice and thick and moisturizing. Lipstick tends to make my lips feel dry and I always worry that it''s dried out or cracked a bit, but if you want a dark lip color, then lipstick is prob better than a dark gloss.

I don''t know of any brand or technique that will make lipstick last through a day of kissing.

I just reapplied it often.

thanks girls! I''ll test out these techniques. There are just so many things to worry about for the wedding!
