I put this in the BWW forum also but I wanted to see what others who don''t frequent that one have to say.

Our wedding is at 11:00 with cocktail hour and reception starting immediately afterwards. The reception will end by 4PM, and I''ve been wondering what to do after that. My mom came up with this idea -- please be honest about your thoughts. As you may know, we''re getting married in a beach town on the coast of Maine next summer. We just reserved a hotel that''s just one mile from the venue. We''re considering renting a trolley to take guests from the hotel to the venue. After the reception ends, my mom thought that it might be a cool idea to have the trolley pick everyone up, drop them off at the hotel for a while so people can change and maybe relax for a bit. Then, the trolley would take us to the marina where boat tours leave at a designated hour (we''re thinking of going on the 6PM cruise). We''d go on a 90 minute tour and see the sights on a lobster boat. I''d honestly rather take a dinner cruise type of boat (the kind with more than one level) but that''s too expensive.

Here''s the site: http://www.firstchancewhalewatch.com/index.php (I think it''s the one named "Kylie''s Chance.")

This would be in lieu of favors and a brunch the next day. If you were going to a wedding, would you choose to do this or would you head back home or to the hotel to hang out instead?

Well, if there''s lobster eat''in involved, I''d go for sure! If not, maybe I''d succomb to being too tired? But hey, I''m a self-proclaimed lobster-ho so anytime there''s free lobster being bandied about, I''m THERE! Have you checked the prices to maybe offer beer and lobster rolls onboard? Because that? Would get me to go FOR SURE...

I know folks who live in Maine and they get lobster real cheap up there...I''m guessing you could find beer and lobster rolls for not too much and it would make the perfect evening snack. Yum! Can I come too?

Sure, you can come but there isn''t actually any food on the boat. It''s simply a cruise around the river, barely touching the ocean. Apparently we''ll be going by Walker''s Point, where former Pres. Bush has a house. It''s not a new site to me but it could be for others on board. I figure people may need a break from eating -- remember this is right after the reception. After the cruise (if we do this), people will be on their own for dinner (we won''t be hosting it).

So if you dont host any food/drink on the boat, will you do a hosted brunch the next day? Because I''d prefer and appreciate a hosted brunch rather than a boat ride. But that''s just my personal preference.

It sounds like it is going to be great no matter what you decide; your guests are going to have a great trip, regardless of what they decide to do. If you are not doing a brunch or favors, I do not see anything wrong with having the boat cruise as an option.

I would make it clear that it was totally optional, and set it up in a way that you will not have to purchase too many tickets in advance so you are not left with unclaimed tickets.

My honest opinion...is that it seems the day is already action packed

I was wondering if you had considered your fun boat ride the night before?

It may make everyone appreciate the venue more after learning what you usually do on that type of thing. Will you be gathering the members of the wedding for a rehearsal the night before? Could all of you including oot guests meet at the dock for an evening cruise? Bonfire on the beach to follow?

You have a big day the next day...it wouldn''t be expected that you host an all night thing. You could part early. And I wonder if many of your guests plan on returning home the same day, since your ceremony is an early event. You plan on a long reception, but they may have intended on leaving early. I think my thought would be wedding is at 11:00 a few hours at the reception a 6:00 flight home...or drive home...I would hate for you to plan the same night thing or even more the next morning brunch...and everyone already on the road or back in the air. Honestly, with that early of a ceremony I do believe many will be planning an early departure. Check out at the hotel is 11:00 or Noon...so I would part to the ceremony with all my luggage.

The brunch I have found to be following a late night reception and a met the next morning. But your reception is to end before dinner that day.

Just a thought, another viewpoint...or opinion as requested.

Personally, I would prefer a brunch the next morning. Two reasons:
1) I get HORRIBLY sick on boats, and I would hate to subject you to my vomiting over the side on your wedding day.

2) That''s just a lot of activity in one day. I love all the celebration, but it gets very exhausting after a while, especially if the weather is warm.
It''s really up to you though.

What do YOU want to do on YOUR wedding day? That''s what counts!

Just speaking for myself, when the wedding and reception are finished...so am I! If a few close friends and family are lingering about, I think a brunch would suffice. Thinking about a lobster boat ride, makes me turn a bit green...sorry...

I agree that it is a lot of activity. Since your wedding starts in the morning and ends 5 hours later, your guests may just prefer to chill-out for the rest of the afternoon. I think having something the day before or the day after would be better. If you prefer the same day, I think it should at least be in the evening, like a dinner get-together (optional), after your guests have had a chance to relax.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, if we do this, we''ll put the info. on our wedding website and when it''s time for the invitations to be sent out, we''ll ask people to let us know if they''re planning on the boat cruise. This will be on the reply card that they''ll send back. We''d buy tickets based on those "yes" replies ahead of time. It would indeed be a lot of wasted money if there were unclaimed tickets. If for some reason people change their mind at the last minute, well, I''m not sure what we''d do. Maybe try to give them back to the boat company and get some $ back. I need to think that part through.

Thanks for your honesty! That''s exactly what I want. I have thought about having it the night before or even on Sunday, the day after (this may be a better option). I''m assuming the only ones who would potentially take part in this would be OOT family and maybe a few friends from OOT. I know that people may want to get up and go the day after and not feel obligated to attend anything else so it wold be totally optional. If people said they''d go though, I hope they actually do. We''d pay for it after all.

As for the rehearsal dinner, we''re going to have it at the hotel we''re staying at. We have a whole building on the property to ourselves practically. Behind that building is a lawn that we''ll rent out for a few hours and have a local BBQ joint cater dinner. It won''t be a formal sit down dinner -- if you''re hungry, come out and join us on the lawn for something to eat.

I don''t think we''d do a brunch at all the following day, regardless if we do the boat cruise or not.
