LOGR Legacy - worth it to upgrade diamonds?

I was quoted $44 to upgrade the diamonds in the setting to H VS.

Should I pay it - are the SI diamonds bad quality?

I like the upgraded diamonds personally. I think they have a lot more flash.

Thanks! I''m having them make it for my diamond asscher stone.

They vary quite a bit in consistency. I''ve had clean beautiful default SI diamonds, and some that looked like frozen spit (I returned those settings). If you want to be on the safe side, then upgrade.

I''m expecting a couple of non-upgraded settings. One is a setting with two small baguettes, and I''m not really too worried about it. The other is a marquise halo for my mom''s birthday, and I am a little nervous about that one because its going to be a gift. I''ll report back once they arrive!

If its for a diamond (I''m assuming colored diamond) you will probably want to go for consistency and get the upgraded.

I generally don''t have the upgraded diamonds in most of the settings I have from them, and they suit my purposes. I really do like the single cut diamonds, and have only had one setting where the diamonds were really not up to par.

I''ve upgraded diamonds on 3 settings. They look smaller than the non upgraded ones to me. Whatever the case, be it upgraded or not, I always ask stephen to please have them matched in the best way possible.

I also suspect that if you''re buying one of his more expensive settings, the diamonds are nicer. If you win one on auction, in particular at a low final bidding price, be leary.

It was for a BUY IT NOW or Best Offer. They took my offer. My asscher is an I colored. I asked the Colored Stone Forum because I think more PSers from this forum have experience with LOGR.

Thanks all!!

In my earlier days with LOGR, I had issues with diamond quality of won auctions. Now, no issues at all - I haven''t had a single frozen spit diamond and I have lots of settings from him that I win through low cost auctions.

Indy - Check out those baguettes for chips when the setting arrives. I returned one setting with eye visable chipped diamonds to him, and the replacement was also chipped, although not so bad. I needed a loupe for that one. I didn't want to mess around any more, so I kept it. I just want to give a heads' up to people, and I'm curious what the experiences of others are. It is a nice, simple setting, and one of my favorite LOGRs. I'm guessing the diamonds are probably all jumbled together at some point in their past, and take a real beating. They were very nice and white otherwise. I did not upgrade the diamonds.

Hello Jax, I have purchased only 2 items from LOGR, both were auctions that went for very cheap and I did not upgrade either, I was tempted like you are after reading so much here but both were much better then I expected, nice white and sparkly, one is a pendant setting and the other is a peridot in a halo, the peridot is not the color that I quited wanted but only because I like a more olive tone and this is the more accepted grass green color but I got the ring so cheap I could not have bought just the setting for what I paid so I am very happy.

Thanks for the heads up Flygirl! I''ll definitely let you know how it looks once it arrives. I don''t own a loupe though. Is there an embarrassed emotie?

I''ve only bought one setting from them, and the diamonds were much smaller than the Legacy diamonds. It''s a round prong setting (non-halo) with a simple micropave band. I think the diamonds are lovely, very shimmery and not cloudy or dark, and I didn''t upgrade.

I really and truly think part of the key to getting acceptable diamonds in LOGR settings is simply to get to know Stephen. Email him - ask as many questions as possible, and make him aware that you''re a PSer and your settings will likely be scrutinized under macro photos.

Stephen is well aware that much of his business has originated from PS, so I tend to think he throws the better settings to people who he has done/will end up doing a lot of business with.

But, for an I coloured asscher diamond, and this will be it''s forever setting, I would not chance it and upgrade the diamonds.
