I'm looking for a suite or pair of star sapphires with asterism or iridesence........reasonably priced. Not giant pieces, just functional. No Linde's or treatments. Does anyone know where to find these as it's been a lot of hunting and not much 'finding' so far. If possible I do not want darker tones........stars are fine, but not necessary if there is good iridescence. Any ideas?

I will keep my eyes open for you! The suite is definitely harder to find over a single stone. So far, I’ve found them by sheer luck after a long time looking (for rings). Part of the difficulty of finding ‘the right ones’ of these stones is that they are quite rare by comparison with sapphires and supply is harder to guarantee for larger markets. I once read that for every 100 sapphires mined, there is 1 star. Of these, about 1 percent has a nice balance between hue, silk for a star, and translucency. Therefore, sellers generally have a few here and there only unless they are a specific product.

Without looking for them, I stumbled upon the tiny ones from an eBay seller and negotiated a pretty good price after some back and forth. Those were easy because the only thingS which they have in common with each other is the small size, and general translucence. I’ve only purchased from him that once...though I did not send them for varification, they are natural stars as in not linde, synthetic or with a star a added on with titanium. I did not see any signs of glass filling with my at home gem testing equipment...gem microscope, etc etc, but beware that this does happen now with new stars on the market. A star which is exceptionally inexpensive or too good to be true is suspect immediately. I’m sure this is obvious but, forgive me, I had to say it just in case! I also bought some other small ones from eBay from various sellers. You might ask if he has some pairs amongst his stock. I’m not sure of the size which you are looking for, but the smaller, lighter hued stars are gorgeous and very affordable!

I also came across this small seller. Never purchased from her, but maybe she would be able to get a pair together. She used to have a few for sale.

Also, if you haven’t already, you could check with Starruby, Thegemtrader, Sally at Heart of Water, and Yvonne Raley.

Thanks Bluegemz! I will check your options............and in the back of my mind, if I cannot find them over time and 'space' (internet) I may HAVE to go to Tucson next year............ You have beautiful Star's and I appreciate your suggestions..............

Omg, going to Tucson for the gem show is a dream of mine! I would go in any case if you can make it! I’ll be watching for you when a brows the internet.

Thanks!

If pink untreated star rubies/sapphires with strong asterism are of interest, I saw several on Baldergems Instagram. From Vietnam. Strong There might be a matching pair, no harm to ask. Or a suite. Middle horizontal cell, 10th down. I don’t know how to link that video.

Thanks Arkteia, I will check him out. I had no idea that finding star "rejects" (non-stars) would be so difficult, but it makes sense that those same gems are heated and sold as regular sapphires-- it also spurs me on to find some!

Thanks........I'll check them out. This is a bit like pursuit bike racing.........me chasing those stones! LOL!

It is lol! Definitely requires some determination and patience!
