Looking for an OEC - would love some help!

Can you get a wax mold?

FWIW, I don’t think it will be bulky irl.

I think the mirror image of that ribbon underneath is bothering me but I can’t articulate why. Yeah, I need to ask for a mold now for sure. I think this build is going to be hard for me because I want it to be perfect and I can feel myself second guessing everything. David and Amy will probably be so over my by the end! LOL

Just out of curiosity…How would you have set this stone?

I like the design but I have a couple ideas because I think a few tweaks will really refine it. if you wait a bit I will draw them for you.

It’s mixing deco and belle epoch styles — angular deco gallery and swirly belle epoch shank details. I think that contrast might be throwing you as it’s creating some tensions. Is there a design direction you prefer? Bringing them more in line will make it seem more harmonious.

I think that might be it - plus my inspiration halo was more delicate and I did wonder if this design would be feasible because I knew it might need stronger elements to hold it securely together. I think it would have to be bulkier in terms of a sturdy design. It’s hard too because diamond in hand I think I want to go bold. I jumped the gun I think! In terms of picking out a setting first.

What about bold, chunky cluster? Don’t laugh at my drawing :)

I VOTE FOR THIS
Ok, so I have a halo addiction, sue me.

I also love a cluster bc you already have a solitaire. Note that @maryjane04 has a beautiful cluster but she says the prongs are pokey! I think it can be done to minimize poke but keep it in mind.

Would you consider colored gems for the halo or do you want all diamond?

I think diamond. In my mind it’s diamonds and colored stones for RHRs.

I agree - I need to make this really different from what I have. Ok, got it, no pokey prongs!

Haha thank you for remembering me! So I looked at my CAD and the outer prongs are the V prongs which catches onto everything. Maybe if we used tab prongs it would be better. But yes I love clusters! This has my vote.

ooohhh... these are called "V" prongs??!?!

OK Jaq, then that settles it.

I am doing a 3 stone ring, and i asked Jaq about the prongs I picked, and she said "Oh, the heart prongs?" I was like "oooohhhh, that makes sense, I thought they were called "dog ears". Then jaq realized they looked like a vagina. And I cant unsee it, So my three stone has vagina prongs.

Ohhhhhh V prongs!!! I guess it’s a good thing we aren’t in charge of naming things!!! Hahahahaha!!!

Lol I'm not even sure they're called V prongs but they look like it on my CAD. I would have made them smaller. But your names are way more catchy hahahaha. V for vagina. You're not wrong lol.

I have v prongs between the stones on my five stone and they don’t catch on anything? And yes they do look like labia lol

I think the difference is the V is inside and in between the diamonds. It's not on the outside so the chances of it catching things is low. Whereas mine are all on the outer edge of the cluster so it catches things at every angle lol.

So you’re saying your V is catchier LOL! OMG the way I am cackling at work reading this thread! You all have absolutely made my day!!!

Huh! Can you post your CAD and a picture of your ring showing what you mean bc I think we are using the same word for different styles of prongs.

Ok so I’m looking at your CAD and your prongs are not v-tip. They are just regular prongs, one in each stone. They would be finished by folding the prong tip down over the stone like any other prong. They are attached at the base but the stem splits into two distinct prongs.

True v-tip prongs are different in that it is a single stem and a single v-shape (not split) and they are finished like a bezel! Like teeny tiny semi-bezels. So no snagging at all.

Finished prongs showing how they are a single piece of metal (not split) and they are finished like a semi-bezel:

And a CAD showing these prongs in a halo by DK. See how different this looks that your CAD @maryjane04?

The prongs between the stones in my first CAD we’re like the ones you have MaryJane and I had to show this image above to get them changed to the type of prong I wanted.

I highly recommend true v-tip prongs as their finish is smooth like butter bc it’s a bezel not a regular folded prong.

EDIT: to be clear I still love MaryJanes ring and I want it lol!! Prongs can be better than b-tip bc they are more delicate, pokey be darned!

Oh yes I wish I'd known this beforehand haha but oh well lesson learnt. Haha I'm not going to reset it ever. I'll just have to live with it. Lucky it's an occasional ring.

Thank you for your compliment that you still want it lol it really does pack a punch when you need it to.

Its gorgeous anyway. I have things about some of my rings I would do differently, too, but I won't ever both resetting. Just enjoy for what it is!

Ok, so CAD update: I spoke to Amy and it turns out we really can’t do my exact inspiration because the ring did look pretty delicate and not easy to replicate. SO I told her that maybe the components weren’t working, like @Dreamer_D said, and she’s going to make some changes. She suggested not giving up on the hexagon halo just yet. Either way, great communication and I’m confident we’ll get to where we need to be at some point! More to come…probably won’t be adding vagina prongs to this build, though LOL!

I totally think you can make the design work if you adapt the shank style to better fit the deco halo! Look forward to the next version!

I think I’ve figured out what bothers me about the halo and I what I perceive as bulk. Firstly, I’m not criticizing anyone else’s aesthetic! Some of the halos and clusters remind me of the eave on a roof and it distracts my eyes from the overall flow of a ring. I think this is why I’ve gravitated towards solitaires in the past. Having said that, I like some of the more petite metal halos where the stone looks to be bezel set but has the petite prongs. I’ve got some sketches and poured through versions of this type of ring. It would still give me a solitaire look but also give me a little something extra. In my head I’m thinking go big or go home and do a blingy cluster or keep it a little more refined and sleek. Every build I learn something new about myself and my taste in jewelry! Maybe Amy will show me something somewhere in the middle after we discussed some of my concerns/preferences :)
