Looking for an OEC - would love some help!

I love those dimensions it almost is round lol
I’m having an omc cut around the sane dimensions as yours :)

How exciting!!! I love them all, OEC, OMC, and transitional! I could go on and on! If you care to share, if you don't that's of course fine, I just wondered who is cutting it? I can't wait to see it when it's done. Do you know what setting you will be going with?

I would love to know more about your bands in your avatar, they are beautiful!!!

I love the first setting!! Thanks for sharing pictures with me!! They are all beautiful!

Is that your diamond in the last photo? Gorgeous!!!

Too funny that I love your band! I used to have the Lace band and engagement ring from Michael B, back it the day. Still one of my very favorite bands I ever had!!!

Update: the vendor videos were very short and not extremely helpful. I decided to go forward with the stone and see it on my hand :) if this stone speaks to me I will keep it - the price point for the specs are hard to beat compared to the other vendors I’m seeing online. I did view some diamonds via FaceTime with Fred from 49th but they did not speak to me like this one did!

I submitted the wire but don’t have shipping info yet but I hope it comes by end of week! They offered free shipping and free insurance which I wasn’t expecting!

So happy for you!!! Can’t wait to see your photos and videos!!!!

I think I started with the same vendor, and I felt the same about the videos they sent. If I didn't have the opportunity to see many stones in person locally, I would've ordered as well. And I'm glad I went the in person route because after seeing so many, I realize that nothing compares with seeing them in person. Having one in hand at home is by far the best, but we can't do that for 10 stones, so I think I may have been more likely to settle if I ordered in a couple and picked from those. Don't settle! You have to be your own judge. I learned that with Maxine, the Max Pawn ring. It's a gorgeous cut and anyone would say it's a top performer, but it's just not my favorite look. So you can't just go by a vendor telling you it's a good stone, it has to be the right one for your preferences.

I'm so confused because I don't find it hard to take decent videos, I'm not sure why so many vendor videos are so bad. Not saying this vendor's videos are bad per se, but some different lighting conditions and positions would help so much. I'm trying to learn how to "read" them from different types of videos and pictures, but I think it would take a long time to develop that skill.

I can't wait for your reveal!!

Oddly enough, the handful of vendors I reached out to sent me awful pictures and videos :D I was a little shocked that this seemed to be a trend. Although this vendor had lovely videos he initially posted, the ones I asked for today were only two seconds long LOL! I still have faith the stone is going to be gorgeous! As many times as I’ve read the advice and how-to’s on here I’m still no closer to understanding what to look for other than what I think looks pretty! You seem to be catching on, though!

I think poor photography is a feature not a bug of this type of online sales. On the one hand IG sales are typically not aiming for a high level of customer service. The sellers have very low margins and they don’t have any time to spend on additional customer service because every bit of time they spend on that cuts into their profits, which are already slim. In addition, poor videos make it harder for people to assess the stones and so they’re more likely to buy them to evaluate and from what I understand most people don’t return things that they’ve bought. We are outliers in that regard.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts.

I think that is a fair assessment. Easier for me, as a single consumer, to assume there should be a different level of customer service or engagement but that’s not their reality. I’m not complaining about my interaction today as I’m very pleased with the free shipping and insurance :)

Yeah I didn’t think you were complaining! And I also agree that we should get better service but I guess here we are in the modern retail landscape.

I think there can be a difference between time spent on customer service and effort (not increased time) to take a good video. If vendors would lead with a good video, that doesn't take any longer than a bad video and avoids extra steps of the customer asking for more. But you might be right that there is some incentive to sell the less desirable stones with mediocre videos, I just don't like to be a cynic. FWIW, Ivy & Rose sent me good videos, and that would've given me enough confidence to buy the stone even if I would lose out on return shipping if I didn't love it in person. I appreciate this vendor's free shipping (both ways) policy. There are not many like that.

And yes, I think I'm definitely catching on! I think what moved the needle the most was seeing stones in person, taking my own videos of them to review on my own time at home, and getting very specific advice here on what was going on in specific videos. I still found it hard to evaluate stones on the spot because the lighting was usually not ideal. Near a window with natural light on a sunny day is best. But some places are indoor-only with fluorescent lights, yuck. Experts here might be better at assessing stones in all kinds of lighting and from all kinds of videos. I'm not there yet, not even close. The next big jump in my learning curve was bringing one home and spending time with it. The hard part is deciding what to bring home! I honestly wasn't sure about the Sako stone until I had her at home. Even though it was my last stop of the day and I hadn't seen anything else I was considering, I didn't feel confident making the decision on the spot, I had to come home and take my time with my own videos (which took a lot of time, trying to get the best conditions I could under the fluorescent lights). This meant I had to pay for shipping, but it was worth it to me rather than making an uncertain decision. Maybe if I had been in natural light I would've been more sure. Having Maxine at home too has been extremely helpful and another jump in my learning curve. I'll share my thoughts in my own thread in a couple days.

jaq, don't be shy to bring in another stone if this one doesn't absolutely wow you. It's a huge purchase and you shouldn't settle due to the inertia of having to returning it.

Yeah nothing beats seeing them in person then you can correlate what you see in pictures and videos with what you see with your eyes. I bought dozens of small OECs on eBay back in 2011-2012 and that really helped train my eyes and allowed me to develop a sense of red flags in pictures that will predict poor performance in person.

What size stones did you buy on ebay and what did you do with them?

Dozens was an exaggeration. Maybe it was 15-20 total. Ranged from 4mm to 8mm , but mostly in the sub carat range. I kept my biggest one, the 1.89 ct, and gave some to family and sold the rest over the years. I was trying to make a suite and pairs for various projects but it was so random back then. Totally the Wild West. Terribly pictures… like absolute garbage. Mostly private sellers. No paperwork. It was a guessing game so making pairs was basically impossible. Then I had two kids in daycare and I couldn’t really afford to hoard or set them so off most went into the bling continuum. Now I can afford to keep and set my spoils so it’s much more fun :evil2:

May I ask what vendors name?

Update time:

The tracking showed the stone to be delivered between 8:40-10:40 am before my concierge gets to the office, so I sat in my car and had breakfast deliver via Uber while I waited! LOL

After I waited, the time changed to before noon so sadly I had to go home and wait and then I had a meeting at the same time!

NOW: stone is here and I truly love it! It’s dreamy and romantic, almost champagne colored in lower lighting! And this little stinker is SO hard to video or photograph! Plus, I just had a pair of prescription readers ordered on Wednesday so I can’t see well enough up close when using my phone! I’m 47 and told this is normal for my close up vision so we’ll go with that!

This stone is glittery and it’s chunky! In most lights it faces up pretty white, considering. I can’t wait to get outdoors or in some nice shaded light later this afternoon. Here are the best shots I could get and some side x side with my warmer K colored lab, Chaleur, that I currently wear daily . 4722246790632001224.jpeg7702906469321932121.jpeg1998258413022463294.jpeg7721724828115662120.jpeg6794920397186603551.jpeg2270255824396421506.jpeg3120779264769542871.jpeg910606545926691598.jpeg2885290927868899138.jpeg7096182596482607139.jpeg

It looks beautifully cut in all of these photos and videos! Very chunky, nice kozibe (suggesting compatible crown and pavilion angles), I don't see any over darkness or leakage. I like the patterning a lot too, its very chaotic and that makes for a visually very active and interesting stone to me. Its a winner assuming you also like how it looks in person!

It is so chunky and glittery! Congrats on your new bling!

Thank you so much!!!

Very pretty…. I adore the faceting and that tall crown :kiss2:

Thank you - I love the faceting too, I was hoping they would be as pretty in person as they were in the videos online! I’ve been holding my breath!

Ahhhhh a huge sigh of relief that you don’t see any red flags :) I thought I was seeing a bit of the kozibe you showed me previously!!! I love the chaotic patterning which is something I really love about the older cuts. I couldn’t be happier with this stone! It’s dreamy and has a bit of a warm glow lower lighting which is something fun to get lost staring at :)

Yay!! She is BEAUTIFUL! I can't wait to see her in her setting! So fun!

Thank you! I’m pretty sure I have a good starting off point for the setting! I really want to do an octagon halo with the halo sitting around the diamond but not in a bezel. More to come!

Thank you, everyone, for your help and patience as I posted vague updates :) I love this community and wish as I might to not need every single person’s validation…I do LOL! What would I do without my other bling addicts?!

Shout out to @peppermintpatty for sending me this stone as a serious contender!!!

I’m off to go list stuff in preloved so I don’t have to sell my first born due to gold prices costing a literal small fortune :D

OMG LOOK AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, it's sooooo beautiful, i love how CLEAR it is, it's magical the way it dances the colors and pastels! It's flashing more than Anthony Weiner!

Your enthusiasm kills me every time!!! If I could make all of my emojis work I would react appropriately!

Thank you for talking to me nonstop about this stone and encouraging me to feed my jewelry addiction! My husband thanks all of you for ruining his dream of one day being able to afford a large scale baby goat farm hahahahaha!

In my mind there are no baby goats on the table! If he thinks we can’t have nice things now because of our kids, imagine if we had kids?!
