Hello!

Turning a "eek getting older" big birthday soon, and hankering after an emerald for a RHR.

I don't know much about them - so was hoping someone might know really good source for vintage rings (with authentic emeralds) OR good source for natural stones.

My ideal is emerald in platinum/white gold, I prefer traditional/emerald cut.

I looked through a few threads to try to learn a bit more about emeralds and someone had recommended litnon - is this a https://www.litnon.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=11644

If you have time/inclination - I'm all ears / eyes! thanks

@Autumn in New England - thoughts?

So, it's going to be all about price point and budget, because, as you know, top quality emerald can fetch 5 or 6 figures per carat. In this particular price range, I would personally go smaller so I can get a finer quality. The tone and saturation are on the lighter end, but some folks prefer that. I like that there is a blue modifier, and the stone does have a bit of the emerald glow. I am also partial to Colombian material, so that's good. The oiling is moderate, which is to be expected in this rank. I am, however, perturbed by that large feather at the top, which appears to be traversing the width of the stone and surface-reaching. It's not even so much an aesthetic thing, as it is a question of durability for a ring stone. So if you want my personal opinion, and I hate to be a downer, I would pass on this guy. Good luck on your hunt... you may have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince!

Thank you so much @Autumn in New England ! I really appreciate your expertise.

Yes, my budget is max $1300 USD (I know this isn't a lot) - so would rather have something small but exquisite. If you can see any on JR (other than the 1.10 you thought was better of few choices) I would love input.

I'll definitely take a look! @demantoidz is the best gem hunter 'round these parts though. He's very patient and very thorough. :wavey:

Well now I just had to post

The options have already been laid out nicely (darker non-Colombian vs lighter Colombian). The 1.10ct is the nicest around your pricepoint on the JR site imo. If 1300 is your budget for a loose stone, I assume the budget for a finished ring is a little higher.

These are 1500-1900 but are already set in simple, 18k rings. A few here have used this vendor successfully. Though the emeralds are mostly under 1ct, they are Muzo origin, a nice darker green, minor oil only. You can ask whats in stock in your preferred specs/gold color. Maybe they'd have a moderate treated option over 1ct in your budget. If you don't use Instagram here is their site. http://ieex.com.co/

Similar to the above but moderate oil in a halo setting. Not your preferred gold color, just an example of a finished ring a touch above your loose stone budget.

Currently on sale if you are open to something a little more unusual

Sorry, I see now you specified vintage rings.
If I see something loose or set I will post it here.

@demantoidz - thank you so much! I have been going down the emerald rabbit hole with your links.

I'm thinking it will be hard to get something spectacular with budget. Either I pivot to different stone - or wait & save up in emerald piggy bank (next decade bday!)
